Inside the Controversial '5-Bite Diet'

Hollywood has seen all kinds of extreme diets, from the cabbage soup diet to the cayenne pepper fast. Now comes perhaps the most controversial, the 5-Bite Diet, which is supposed to work like a gastic bypass without the surgery.

Is it safe? Judge for yourself.

i heard this diet works and rick d’s on the radio has been doing this diet for 11 days and lost 9 pounds and he he did fail and got back on the 5 bites again but he kept tring it and lost the 9 pounds , i think if you try this diet it will help you readjust your intake and stomache size so it will help you know when you have had too much it is just like having surgery on your stomach it is alot better than going in and opening your stomach or putting a band on it try it the natural way , just modify your eating habits, i have lost 20 pounds in a month in a half by changeing my eating habit and drinking only water and 1 cup of coffee a day and lowering my fat intake to 10grams a day so make the life change of your eating habits , fruits and vegs are the way and low protein .

This is ridiculous. I laughed out loud when I heard this. I think portion control is key but existing on 5 bites is laughable. He even says you can eat whatever you want as long as it’s 5 bites. Don’t skip breakfast, eat fruits and veggies and a standard lunch and dinner. Oversized portions are what’s making our country the fattest in the world. Losing weight and living a healthy lifestyle is based on common sense principals and existing on eating 5 bites of whatever for a meal isn’t based on sound principals and not something one could sustain for very long.

The “5 bite diet” works because it is based on good science. The problem is Dr. Lewis is a fraud and has screwed up the real “5 bite diet” as you will all find out in due time.

For the people who are saying that this will lead to anorexia, have you ever known someone that had gastric bypass surgery or a lapband? 5 bites is about all they can eat at one time. Just as weight loss surgery is designed for obese people, I believe this diet is designed in that manner as well. People that just want to lose 20-50 just need to go to the gym or try another diet.

Dr. Lewis is a con man! Sure, anyone can lose weight on 10 bites of food per day. And you know what….if you ate 2 bites of food per day, you’d loose even more. And if you ate only one bite, the fat would melt right off. What a concept!

Dr. Lewis’ diet actually exits and is practiced by many - it’s called anorexia - and it’s killing people in the country nearly every day. We need to teach people how to eat a healthy low-fat diet that sustains good health, while maintaining a reasonable weight.

this disgusts me.
EVERYONE would be skinny if they went on this diet! if you only consume 15 mouthfulls of food a day, you’re is bound to be skinny!
but just bear in mind, you’ll probably also be in a wheelchair because you havent been consuming a sufficiant amout of minerals and vitamins.
No pill will fix that.

chelsea, you are not fat! look up your BMI, it’s normal. just get some more exercise and eat healthier (more fruits & veggies, complex carbs & less fat & sugar), and you will lose the few pounds you’d like!

I think this sounds great. I agree that america has a major distorted view of porton sizes. I see nothing wrong with re setting your bodies fullness gage. I don’t believe any of this nonsense about this leading to anorexia as anorexia is not about the food but deeper issues that need to be delt with. Also fred you are mean and hateful for calling anyone a fat pig and comments like that are what lead people to anorexia and other disorders. your mother should give you a good whoopin!

I am going to begin an 8 bite method then work my way down to 5 bites (per meal per day). I can do this because it means not giving up foods that I like.

I have recently lost 40 pounds on my own by having two to three “fast” days per week. “Fast” days mean you go into your kitchen and only drink liquids, these could be any liquids from coffee, hot or cold tea, tomato soup, any kind of juice, milk, to water. I weigh every Friday morning to gauge my weight loss, then for real weight I weigh every Saturday morning and write it on my calendar. Then I eat anything I want on Saturday and Sunday. I have lost 40 pounds (losing one pound per week). I am so proud of myself.

I think it sounds great. Americans over eat and portions are way out of control. 5 bites per meal does not sound so bad. You could start out 8 bites and work your way down.
