Star Jones: Let Heath's Family Grieve in Private

Star Jones has fired off an emotional letter in The Huffington Post, asking media to let Heath Ledger's family grieve in private.

She writes:

"Since we learned of actor Heath Ledger's untimely death on Tuesday afternoon, the basic fact is that until additional tests have been conducted, the autopsy is incomplete and inconclusive as to why this 28-year-old man died. That's what we know.

"Let's get to what we don't know: his death was a tragic accident, or something to the contrary. Until we know for sure, I think the media should just shut their mouths and stop all the speculation that's been running rampant.

"This man has a two-year-old daughter. His family is going through the worst time in their lives. Their hearts are broken, they're numb, they can't understand what's going on right now. Michelle Williams is trying to figure out how to explain to their little girl that she will never see her daddy again. It's heartbreaking, tragic, and it's being used to fuel our never ceasing desire to eavesdrop on the lives of others.

I too agree 100% with Star Jones. As with most celebrities who die way too young, the media always has to act like they know for sure what killed them when in fact all they do is speculate and guess without knowing all(if any) of the facts. Some media are saying he killed himself deliberately, which I believe to be nonsense, but I honestly admit that I do not know for sure as I did not know Mr. Ledger personally and would not have known his state of mind. Everyone should stop playing guessing games and just wait until the toxicology report comes in. Heath Ledger was an extremely talented and good-looking actor with a beautiful baby daughter whose life came to an end all too soon. My heart and prayers go out to the Ledger family and to all of his friends in Hollywood who knew him and worked with him. May he rest in peace.

I agree 100% with Star. I think its ridiculous and appaling how the media is handling his death. They act as if they have never seen a star die before. Especially Extra. I was very angry when I saw an episode of your show implying that Ledger died of a drug overdose and that he was a drug addict. Those facts were never proven and you had no right to even imply such things. You also went from calling the prescription sleeping pills that were found next to him “drugs”. All the shows like Extra are good for is spreading gossip and smearing people’s names. Ledger’s family are going through a terrible time right now and shouldnt have to worry about defending their sons good name. You also implied Ledger committed suicide because of, “all the dark roles he had recently been in.” I hate to imform you but if dark roles had been the cause of suicide Johnny Depp would have committed suicide along time ago.
Find some real stories with real facts and stop messing with peoples lives.
Extra is a poor excuse for television of any kind.
