John Mayer is admitting it's not so bad to be the center of attention.

"Not so long ago I kind of really made peace with the fact that I have a deep-seeded emotional void that can only be filled with recognition and attention," John confessed to "Extra." And he's completely serious!

"I'm not kidding!" he insisted. "That's why we all do this."

Luckily for John, recognition and attention is just what he's getting as Cosmo's Fun Fearless Male of the Year, on shelves Jan. 15.

"I feel like being fun and fearless means not having everybody agree with you all the time," John said.
