Jessica Alba 'Paranoid' About Breastfeeding

Jessica Alba is opening up about her pregnancy, talking for the first time since she announced she was engaged and expecting her first child with boyfriend Cash Warren.

"It's quite a blessing and perfect timing," the glowing star told "Extra" at a junket for her new thriller, "The Eye."

The only thing that takes some getting used to?

"Definitely a lot more emotions!" she confessed. "Anything could make me incredibly angry or break down crying, and that's not something I'm used to."

She also admitted that she's already dreaming about baby.

"It had to do with breastfeeding, which is the only thing I'm paranoid about, more than giving birth," she revealed, adding that she's trying not to gain too much weight during the pregnancy.

"I try and eat healthy as possible, good for baby, exercise, as long as i don't' gain too much to fast, that's the key," she said.

I work with pregnant moms on a regular basis through my state’s WIC program. Jessica is certainly not alone or unusual in her apprehension about breastfeeding. She needs reassurance and support (like any new mom does)that breastfeeding is a wonderful way to nourish and connect with her baby. Sometimes it may be a bit of a struggle at first (but just adjusting to a baby is a struggle in the first few weeks!), but with encouragement and good information, she CAN do it and give her baby a healthy start in life. The benefits of breastfeeding are numerous and last a lifetime. Also, by her breastfeeding, she can reduce her own risk of breast cancer (some studies show by as much as 50%), osteoporosis, and other diseases. Her beautiful body will stay beautiful longer! Also, there is a recent study showing that sagging breasts are NOT caused by breastfeeding, but are much more closely linked to smoking - so she can take that fear off the table!
I wish her the best in this pregnancy, birth, and newborn period!

Dear Dayna; I would like to know where you purchased the navy and chrome baby buggy you presented to Jessica Alba last week? Although not a celebrity and probably only being able to afford a replica like the one given to Jessica Alba, it would be nice to have one for my baby upon arrival. At this time, I am hospitalized due to complications. Not having the chance to purchase much for our child soon to come w/in the next few months, would you consider blessing someone else who is not a celebrity with a baby buggy? I actually thought it was a nice gesture myself. Although she can afford it, I don’t feel there is anything wrong with showing kindness to those who “can afford these lavish gifts” from time-to-time. I am certain you have a heart for “regular” mom’s-to-be, however; most would not dare put themselves out there to ask for it due to being ashamed. I would like to hear back from you real soon. Looking forward to seeing and hearing more on the show!

Thank you and God bless!

why can’t we just leave the famous all alone for a month or so and just see how reality really is? I am sure she will know what and how to expect when the baby is first placed on her chest. she’s just like you, and me….NORMAL HUMAN BEING!!! She just gets paid the big bucks!

Dear Jessica,

A midwife can offer you excellent, repectful care for you and your baby. They can also help you overcome any fears involving your birth or breastfeeding. They give one on one support and visits usually last for 45 minutes to an hour to ensure your emotional and physical health are on track.
Midwives do not just attend home births, they are in birth centers and hospitals as well. Midwives can offer you pain management by emotional support, alternative methods or even pharmaceuticals if you choose them.
A home birth would offer you privacy as well as safety. While I agree with the previous post that home birth is a great choice for a healthy mother to be with an uncomplicated pregnancy, a birth center is an excellent option as well.

I recommend “The Big Book of Birth”, a Real Birth Childbirth Class and La Leche League for all your questions about pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding.

Actually the key is for her to find a midwife and have her baby at home. A midwife could help her become comfortable with her body to birth this baby and then breastfeed. Weight gain is the least of the issues.

Support homebirth. .Hire a midwife!!!

I was really disappointed that Extra gave so much and such expensive gifts to a woman who could buy what ever she wants. Why not donate that same amount to other UNWED mothers that are struggling to make ends meet?

I’d like to know why Extra found it necessary to turn the interview into a baby shower. Like Jessica can’t afford the best for her baby….. What about the expecting Mothers out there in the “real” world? Working hard and just hoping for the best? Looking forward to breast feeding and bonding…

Why are American women so uptight and neurotic about breastfeeding? She needs to see a shrink before giving birth. She does not sound like mother material to me…so self absorbed with her image.
