George Clooney sent women at the United Nations into a frenzy today when he arrived at a ceremony marking his new role as U.N. Messenger of Peace.

The Associated Press is reporting that a several "oohs" and "ahs" were heard as he arrived in the lobby, which was crowded with people trying to catch a glimpse of him.

George, 46, was given the role after working feverishly to support humanitarian efforts in war-torn Darfur. He co-founded Not On Our Watch, a group that has raised more than $9 million for the region.
