Sam Lufti is telling X17online.com that a "manic episode" was behind Brit's hospitalization last night.

In a series of text messages purported to be from Sam, he writes, "Britney was suffering a mental breakdown...After today's visit [with a psychiatrist], the doctor felt Britney needed to be hospitalized."

She also "went willingly" to the hospital, according to Sam, and will stay there for "a few days at least."

He claims that the doctors at UCLA Medical Center are "refusing to get any info from Adnan [Ghalib] or the family" and are getting Britney's medical history from him. "They've requested my presence," he writes.

As for the reports that Britney's mom Lynne is arguing with Sam, he supposedly writes, "Lynne didn't want to go along with the doctor trying to get her help 'cause she was worried Britney would blame her for it. Britney learned that Lynne has been in contact with Adnan these past few weeks and was furious over that."

Dr. Phil McGraw says he's not surprised by Britney Spears' latest alarming meltdown.

The TV doc, who famously visited Brit in the hospital and released a statement about it only to be berated by her family, told the ladies on "The View" this morning that he doesn't think her commitment "surprises anybody."

"If that starts on the road to getting some intervention, then that's a good thing," he says, adding how difficult it is for parents of adult children to force them into getting help. Brit's mom, Lynne, is reportedly trying desperately to take Britney back to Louisiana and away from her circle of friends.

All of Hollywood is up in arms at "Entertainment Tonight" for attempting to air a video of Heath Ledger at a drug party two years ago on the Sunset Strip.

The tabloid show's sister program "The Insider" aired a preview of the video yesterday showing Heath at the Chateau Marmont in Hollywood. Though the show said the video doesn't show Heath doing drugs, they ran a clip of an unidentified man snorting cocaine. The video also shows a clip, allegedly of Heath, where he says, "I used to smoke five joints a day for 20 years." He also talks about his daughter, Matilda Rose.

Now, amid outrage and disgust, the show has pulled the plug on the tape. "Out of respect for Heath Ledger's family, `Entertainment Tonight' and `The Insider' have decided not to run the Heath Ledger video that has been circulating in the world media," the show said today.

A statement from Heath's publicist, which spread like wildfire throughout Hollywood, blasted the show for "shameful exploitation of the lowest kind."

Heath still hasn't been laid to rest following his tragic death last week. Toxicology results are due in just days and could shed light on what caused his terrible passing.

Dr. Jan Adams, the most controversial surgeon in America, is ready to answer the questions he's never answered before.

Months after Kayne West's mother Donda died following plastic surgery, "Extra" put Adams on the hot seat and he finally got personal.

"I didn't just lose a patient," Adams says, "I lost a friend."

Reports suggested Adams abandoned Donda after surgery, but for the first time, he reveals he never lost contact with her during her final hours.

"I was there all along," he contends. "I had talked to her twice that day."

He continues, "I talked to her, I talked to the family, I met them at the hospital so I was there the whole time. I had a pretty good idea of what had transpired in terms of her care once she was outside of our direct care."

A man has been arrested outside Brad Pitt's L.A. home.

The man, who identified himself as a freelance reporter, was arrested yesterday for investigation of trespassing and taken into custody.

The man apparently pulled his car into Brad's driveway and asked the housekeeper which house was Brad's. Alarmed, the housekeeper called police. It will be up to the housekeeper to decide whether to press charges.

Neither Brad nor Angelina Jolie were home at the time.

Was Britney's hospitalization a carefully-executed event?

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that police officers already had a plan in place when they picked up the troubled star last night at 1 a.m.

In fact, cops even used code words in their efforts to get Britney to UCLA Medical Center, referring to her as "the package."

"At 1:08 a.m.," the Times reports, "officers inside the home radioed to commanders that 'the package is on the way out.'"

Authorities are saying that Brit was admitted to the hospital for a "mental evaluation" after her psychiatrist made a phone call that prompted the star to be hauled away.

Though it's not clear when authorities got the call, "it was apparent that the operation had been carefully planned over a period of time," reports the Times.

George Clooney sent women at the United Nations into a frenzy today when he arrived at a ceremony marking his new role as U.N. Messenger of Peace.

The Associated Press is reporting that a several "oohs" and "ahs" were heard as he arrived in the lobby, which was crowded with people trying to catch a glimpse of him.

George, 46, was given the role after working feverishly to support humanitarian efforts in war-torn Darfur. He co-founded Not On Our Watch, a group that has raised more than $9 million for the region.

Just hours before being placed on a psychiatric hold, Britney Spears was seen driving all over Los Angeles without ever taking a break to sleep.

Yesterday afternoon, after being up all night, "Extra" caught Britney going for lunch at Jerry's Deli with her usual pack of photographers in tow.

Britney first showed up alone, drove around the parking lot and left after being unable to find a parking spot. Minutes later, she returned and entered the restaurant. Upon her exit, her paparazzo boyfriend Adnan Ghalib was with her, pushing the ever-growing crowd of photographers out of her way.

Before her hospitalization, several outlets, including X17online.com, began speculating that a breakdown was imminent because of her lack of sleep. In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, she was seen buying a case of RedBull and driving aimlessly through the Hollywood Hills. There are reports that this erratic driving alarmed her new psychiatrist, who called the cops to take Britney to the hospital.

Britney Spears was taken by ambulance to UCLA Medical Center for a psychiatric hold last night.

Shortly after 1 A.M., police were called to her Studio City home and she was taken in for treatment on a 5150 hold. Under a 5150, a patient is deemed a danger to themselves or others and is admitted under a 72-hour emergency hold. Last time Brit was hospitalized, she left after just one day.

Just like the Jan. 3 episode, the scene outside her home last night was surreal. A cavalcade of police motorcycles and cars lined the streets as two helicopters flew overhead. Paparazzi scrambled to get a shot of Brit inside the ambulance, but she left through a side gate and escaped the frenzy.

Reports have been circulating that Britney tried to commit suicide, but X17online.com reports that her mom Lynne said "Britney is fine."

Both of Britney's parents are at the hospital with her right now, along with her confidant Sam Lufti. Brit's photog boyfriend Adnan Ghalib reportedly drove with Lynne to the hospital.

X17 says Sam was denied entrance into the hospital at first, and there are reports that the family is fighting amid fears for Britney. Lynne is reportedly furious with Sam and worried about his intentions with the troubled star and hasn't held back in letting Britney know it. Britney's dad Jamie reportedly got in a screaming match with him in the hospital halls because Sam was trying to make medical decisions for Britney.

"And if I'm going to do a sleepover with one of my dancers, like, we definitely have to go to sleep. So on the road, they're definitely more strict, so I'm kind of excited to come home!"
