Wrong Contestant Crowned Miss California USA 2008?

Inside sources tell “Extra” that the Miss Universe organization may have a new scandal on its hands over last weekend’s Miss California USA Pageant.

“Extra” has information that the wrong contestant may have been awarded the crown due to an alleged accounting error.

Cristina Silva, Miss Los Angeles, was named Miss California USA 2008, but sources tell “Extra” the judges actually chose the 2nd runner-up, Raquel Beezley, Miss Barstow, as the winner.

Sources tell “Extra” that Silva has been made aware of the error and the pageant’s owner, Donald Trump, has been looped in as well.

Today, The Miss Universe Organization tells “Extra”, “This matter is being handled on the state level.”

to everyone in a pageant the audience
has no say in what the so called profesional judges have to say.
one person can have 90 percent of the audience want to win but it is in the hands of the judges now of mr. LEWIS
PICKS the person that the audience wants
and not the one his jugdes pick.
way in the hell have judges for.
it should go to the person with the most

The previous post was stated very eloquently, which is a far cry from the very poorly put together attacks that have been coming from disgruntled contestants and their mothers. The writer has an educated view of what goes on in checking and balancing after a pageant. Yes Keith responded to the audiences “Boo’s”, who in their right mind wouldn’t have. At least 75 to 85% of the audience had an unfavorable reaction to Raquel being called as only second runner up, that many people, not related to her, could not be wrong!
Regardless of which firm serves as tabulators and auditors, there is always a recount to validate and certify the scores; then once this is done, the main organization also validates the scores. The gross error was discovered during the first certification process. I too commend K-2 Productions for coming forward with the error, if they hadn’t, it would have been discovered by Universe in a couple of weeks, thus increasing the shock value. There is NO SCANDAL in honesty. Yes it happened at the expense of the Miss California USA Pageants, but this was an accounting firm’s error not the Pageants. Even the judges knew something was amiss, which was the reason for all the commotion at their table. I believe a more experienced panel would have stopped the announcements and rechecked the tabulation.
Fact 1: Raquel’s first time running in Miss USA was as a Teen, when she won 2nd runner up.
Fact 2: The first couple of times she ran in the Miss division were for experience only; she knew she was too young to win the Miss division.
Fact 3: Raquel has won numerous titles including an International title; She has competed in a variety of pageants in order to hone her skills for her ultimate dream… Miss USA
Fact 4: Hard work, Persistence, and remaining focused pay off. She worked her butt off to compete this year and it showed, her mindset was focused, her body fit and the timing was right! That’s all there was to it.
Fact 5: Her family was not sitting in the front row. Any comments like this are pure fabrication in order to make themselves appear to know what they are talking about.
The bottom line is that there was a major error in tabulation, when discovered and corrected, disgruntled contestants and families are looking for excuses to explain why their daughters didn’t place higher. Life happens … get over it! As Raquel said in their very well answered question; it’s the rough patches and hard knocks that we experience in life that help to make us strong.
All the complaining in this public venue will only serve to make you more ugly inside and bitter, let it go, wish her good luck and bless Christina for understanding and doing the right thing. It’s not easy for either of these two girls.

Miss Greater San Diego is the winner. I saw the ballots. She should demand to see them too. Also, if any of you know the rules of a pageant, you’ll know that if something should happen to the winner, the first runner up will take the position. If this is true, why didn’t Woodland Hills take the crown? Why Barstow, who was not first runner up? Think About it.

The New Miss California….NOT!
ESCANDALO!!!
Last week, my darling sister, Rita (of Survivor: Fiji fame) was in Los Angeles training the lovely contestants vying for the Miss California USA and Miss California Teen USA 2008 titles. She invited David and I to attend the finals, which were held at the historic Orpheum Theater in Downtown Los Angeles.

I wanted to attend the finals to support my sister, who looked absolutely stunning wearing one my NIKOLAKI gowns as she handed the bouquets to the Final 5. It was a nice surprise to see the beautiful Meagan Tandy, last year’s Miss California USA, wearing the gown we designed for her when she competed (and received the 3rd Runner Up Title). Also in attendance were two Rita’s castmates and friends from Survivor:Fiji, Michelle Yi and Alex Angarita. It was fun to watch all those girls whom Rita trained and to see her “stamp” of excellence in their walk, posture and presentation.

The pageant itself was actually an exciting one. Everything seem fine and normal. There were over 100 girls competing for both titles. I had my favorites including Miss LA who was a spunky Latina with a walk and a personality that could be seen from the nose-bleed seats at the theater. Miss Barstow and Miss Greater San Diego were gorgeous, the former being a dead ringer for Carmen Electra and Lauren Conrad of MTV’s The Hills and the latter, a beautiful California blond who had “Miss USA” written all over her. These last two were the obvious favorites of the capacity audience at the Orpheum, as well.

It came as a shock then when neither of their names got called as the winner. This is went things got “pageant ugly”. All one could hear were shouts of “Boo” and hisses from the entire theater when Miss Barstow was not named the winner. The sassy Miss LA, Christina Silva had been crowned the new Miss California. We happened to be seated directly behind the judges, which included last year’s controversial Miss Teen USA, Katie Blair (from MTV’s Pageant Place) who looked at the other judges with wonderment. There was some shuffling that had occurred right before the naming of the winners, by the judges’ reps who were tabulating their scores. So there was obvious confusion, but besides this, everything seemed to be going according to a normal pageant script. I met the newly crowned Miss California USA as well as her family backstage and she was such a doll. She confided that she was a fan of Project Runway and loved the gown I designed for last year’s winner and couldn’t wait for me to design hers.

Cut to today. My sister calls me and tells me to go to ExtraTV.com to see the new pageant scandal: It has just been discovered that the judges scores were somehow “misread” by the accounting firm overseeing it and the winner was not the Miss LA, but in fact Miss Barstow, Raquel Beezley (the Carmen Electra/Lauren Conrad doppelganger) . At least this pageant scandal did not involve pepper spray or drug addiction. The lovely Christina Silva, Miss LA, was asked to give up the crown she just had for only 5 days and the crowd favorite, Miss Barstow now has been crowned the new Miss California USA. I am sure this is not the way she envisioned to be crowned the most beautiful woman in California. But, as they say, any publicity is good publicity. More eyes will be on her when she competes in next year’s Miss USA and she will already be on the pageant radar.

I believe that the judges scores should be made public given the serious situation and implications for all the contestants. If there was an error on the final sheets was there an error from the beginning????
Ladies do you really want to be part of this type of mickey mouse drama?

Wow I guess are public school are falling us counting and adding 0-5 is hard this days… funny and I thought that voting for the president was hard to count. AND get this people are paid to count from 0-5 then adding them up… I love it… I think this job of counting should be sent over seas at least they know how to count!

What most of you don’t understand, is that every State Pageant has to submit their judging sheets and auditor sheets to the Miss Universe organization. They do an additional audit to the first audit, and that is where the error was found. Not by the State Pageant, but by the Miss Universe organization. That is why it took a few days for this to come to light.

And whoever “vote” is, I never said I worked for K2. I volunteer and help the girls, I don’t work for K2.

And why would I want to put my name on this, so all of those disgruntled people who don’t have a clue on how pageants really work can contact me with nasty emails?

Don’t think so!

This question came up the reason that Kith looked back at the numbers or ballets was the people in the audience booed. Let me ask you this why would he look back because people booed? He said, “this has never happed before so I need to check, it didn’t feel right” ok so he based all his feeling on the people booing??????? Miss Barstow family was in the front row so when she was called 2nd runner up they booed right in Kith face who was about 20 feet away. So he is telling the would that never once people booed in a pageant. I thing if your have a loving family they wood not at the winner just at the fact that their girl did not win. All I’m saying is that this is not right it’s too fishy and if you know the fact that I now you will understand a lot better. If Miss Barstow was to win when she was called 2nd runner up or the 3rd person in line after the queen why did any say something like STOP! As un classy as saying stop at a show its not classy to embarrass the family of Christina they were so happy for her for about a week and they all were shot down by Miss Barstow taking the crown with now sham and no questioning her self. Why doesn’t she ask this- I was called 2ned runner up why do I win?- Well I think the fact that this is her fourth time they don’t want her there any more so they gave it to her.

If this was Barstows’ FOURTH time, she paid $1,500.00 every time she was in the contest this would total $6000.00, could this be the reason they decided she had to win? This change of contestants is very questionable. Why did they wait so long to find their BIG MISTAKE? Was the reason they decided that Los Angeles could not win because she only paid once?Los Angeles won the FIRST time and it took Barstow FOUR times! Therefore Los Angeles is the winner! If you are not thinking $$$$$$$$

- Absolutely Unbelievable
Posted 12/01/07 08:48 PM

Raquel won the pagent, it’s to bad that there has to be so much drama involved. If any of the people making the rude comments lived in Barstow they would know that neither the city of Barstow nore the family of Raquel would ever go so low as to pay to win. Barstow is a small town, it seems that all the big city folks are just upset because they were outclassed by a small town girl.
