Ellen to be Muzzled Over Canine Controversy

Ellen DeGeneres will announce on her show today that she’ll stop publicly fighting to win Iggy the dog back from an animal shelter.

In an episode taped yesterday and set to air today, Ellen tells the audience, “It’s gotten out of hand…but you don’t resort to violence. So anybody out there, please stop that.”

Yesterday the woman who owns the shelter that took Ellen’s dog back said she feared for her life after receiving numerous death threats.

Now Ellen says she won’t talk about the canine controversy again until the dog is returned. It has already been placed in another home.

The widely publicized doggie dilemma began last month when Ellen adopted the black Brussels Griffon mix from the Mutts and Moms dog-rescue shelter in Pasadena. Realizing the dog didn’t get along with her cats, she gave Iggy to her hairdresser and the woman’s young daughters.

Soon, Mutts and Moms caught wind of the exchange and demanded the dog be given back to the shelter, citing strict shelter policy.

Ellen says several agencies have offered to provide the family with a similar looking dog, but Ellen insisted, “It’s not a toy that’s broken that you can replace. It’s a dog.”

Today the stars are jumping to Ellen's defense.

Rosie O'Donnell writes on her blog that Ellen is "wonderful" and "deserves a vacation."

Ellen couldn’t keep the dog and found it another home where the dog was obviously very loved and wanted. It is ridiculous the ruckus that has been raised over this. The dog shelter could have quietly reminded Ellen of their policy without ripping the dog from it’s home and upsetting the kids in that home.
If the dog had been placed in a bad environment and wasn’t being properly care for, then they were justified. Clearly that was not the case, and they were just mad at Ellen for not following their policy. The intent of the policy was to make sure the dogs get put in a good home and that is exactly what happened. They should have had better sense.

It’s unfair for Ellen to use her “bully pit” to air her grievance against a “little person.” Ellen knew what that small business operator’s policy was before she adopted the dog. The small business operator is just looking out for dogs — to ensure they go to a good home. Pick on someone your own size, Ellen. You have seriously defamed that poor woman, besides putting her life and limb in jeopardy with some of your fans who are short-sighted (to be nice). That “little person” could have been one of them. Imagine if Oprah had attacked a “little person.” Ellen owes that lady a public apology and compensation for the defamation she has brought to her — portraying her as someone who willy-nilly takes pets from kids. As “little people,” that lady should have all of our support.

In a way i disagree with Ellen and how she used her popularity to get what she wants. They strictly sign documents to inform the shelter if the dog does not do well at her homes. The shelters are trained to determine what type of home the dog should go to. They have to go through an interview process before the dog can be put into a just any home. Some people love their pets so much they treat it like a baby. But if this was a real baby the adoption agency would not let this happen at all. They let the baby into your home because there is significant proof that it would be a good place for the baby. So to give it away to a family that you think is “a good family” because you cant handle it is almost unethical. This is no different with the puppy. The new family has to interviewed and questioned before they can receive a dog that has special needs, and can potentially be harm or harm the children if not taken cared of properly.

This matter really annoys me seeing it all over the media. Seriously Ellen - CRY ME A RIVER is right! WTF? What are you crying about? You broke the agreement and you RUINED the rescue dog agency AND the owners. Why dont you just drop it already and apologize? You shouldnt use the fact you are in the spotlight to get what you want and I really liked you prior, but I just lost all respect for you. Get your hairdresser a new dog at the pound already!! Thousands are put to sleep every day!!!!!!!! And if anyone familiarizes themselves with the adoption process for nonprofit pet adoptions and even the pounds, they will see they are pretty hardcore before they’ll give you a dog. For example, if you say you will be at work 8-5p, they will not let you have the dog at some places because they believe you are neglecting the pet. They have the best interest of the pet, not the crying under age kid that had the dog for a week or what have you.

Alright! Ellen didn’t make the best choice(why giving a much needed home to an animal is the wrong choice?? Confuses me)…on the other hand, neither did this animal rescue do any better. If their purpose is to find a good home for a stray pet? What’s the problem?Ellen attempted to do the right thing…why couldn’t this rescue group do the same? Her ego is out of place, she’s needs to get over herself she’soley responsible for all of this.

I understand that ellen didn’t realize that by her giving the dog to a loving family who could take care of the dog and the dogs needs more than she could was wrong. Why would she? We as regular people do the same thing all the time. Sometimes in life you get or buy a pet and certain circumstances happen that do not allow you to keep the pet. So you find a loving home for that pet and hope to see the dog as much as possible. To let those children or any child for that fact feel that type of pain as to take something away from them like that is cruel. Any child at any age will become attached to any animal in a short period of time. They just love unconditionally. Maybe the right thing to do would be to let this family apply the same way and give them back thier dog.It would be a win, win situation for everyone involved. I do feel however the owners of Mutts and Moms could have handled the situation a little better than they did. Had they observed the family with the dog I’m sure they would have realized where the dog belongs.I wish Ellen and the family good luck in getting the dog back.

most people that are not dog owners can not see why ellen is so up set about this…when you get a new pet you could love the dog the moment you get it or hate it..but to a kid you allways love it…you could have it for one day and its your best friend for life.. ellen is sad because the little girl most likely feel in love with this dog..annd another dog well not make you feel better .. I would be just as mad..it was not right of them to do so…people sould not go as far as death theats,, but to not do business with thoughs people any more….ellen you rock

I don’t know what’s going here between ellen and the Mom and Mutts, but thi nk the whole thing’s getting out of hand. I’m glad the ellen’s TV show stop talking about the feud. One tuesday, she was on the show crying her eyes out that a dog that was used to owned by Ellen, was taken from the family that Ellen gave the dog. the owner of “Mutts and Moms” came by, enter the house and took the dog? I don’t know anything about dogs since I’m not a dog owner, but I think with the recent death theats, I think the situation is getting out of hand. I calling for a settlement in the dog dispute. I ‘m calling for the contact to be bend that the dog be return to the family. I’m also calling for the cease of death theats against “Mutts and Moms.” Violence and theats solves nothing, but add more grief. As for ellen’s show. I love to watch your show almost every day. Let’s keep it that way.
