Whoopi to Barry Manilow: 'If You Don't Sit With One, You Sit With None'

The women of “The View” are now addressing the controversy surrounding Barry Manilow’s refusal to appear next to Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

Whoopi Goldberg began this morning’s show and explained that someone in Manilow’s camp had requested that he not sit next to Hasselbeck.

She then stated, “If you don’t sit with one, you sit with none,” to which the audience applauded.

All the women – Whoopi, Joy Behar, Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd – seemed to be in agreement that Manilow’s decision to cancel his appearance due to Hasselbeck’s conservative political views was a shame.

“We’ve had liberals, we’ve had Republicans – we service everybody!” joked Goldberg.

Added Behar, “We practice free speech here.”

Goldberg pointed out that the decision about Manilow’s appearance was ultimately left to executive producers Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie.

Hasselbeck insisted, “We are courageous women who sit here everyday and love each other through our differences – not despite them. I think that’s a wonderful thing.”

But all is not lost with Manilow: Goldberg said that at some point he will appear on the show.

He had every right not to want to be interviewed by her. If a bigger star requested to be interviewed by Whoopie instead, you know they would have. Elizabeth is a no talent. She is shrill voiced and talks like she had 25 cups of coffee and then some helium for good measure.

MAYBE IT IS TIME WE ALL GOT A LIFE INSTEAD OF WORRYING ABOUT BARRY MANILOW AND HIS VIEWS.THERE MUST BE OTHER THINGS GOING ON THAT ARE MORE IMPORTANT.

ENOUGH ALREADY

Maybe we should no longer support or promote Mr. Manilow if we don’t agree with his way of thinking! I really think the so called stars are all stuck on themselves it seems it’s their way or the highway.I was raised to have respect for all and that is how I raised my family. When you stop listening is when you stop learning!!!Mr. Manilow you obviously still have a lot to learn or did someone make you GOD when we weren’t looking?

WHY DON’T YOU REMOVE THE VOTING AND JUST SHOW THE COMMENTS?
YOU DON’T SHOW THE CORRECT TOTALS FOR THE AGREE VOTERS AND YOU DON’T SHOW THE TOTALS FOR THE PEOPLE WHO VOTE FOR DISAGREE.
REMINDS ME OF PROBLEMS WE HAD IN VOTING SYSTEMS A FEW YEARS AGO.

i’ve always loved barry manilow’s music & will continue to love them…however, it’s very disheartening & disappointing to hear/know of this side of mr. manilow that can be narrow minded & intolerant of other people’s views, opinions, & beliefs…i sincerely hope he’ll realize how hate & intolerant mentality can cause one sometimes to act irrationally…the ‘The View’ is just a show, nothing more, and ms. hasselbeck is just another individual like everyone else w/ rights inc. right to an opinion, view, & belief and who happens to be in the entertainment industry…i’ll continue to afford mr. manilow the utmost regard & respect due a professional, respectable, & rational human being.

I VOTED DISAGREE ON TWO COMMENTS AND IT REGISTERED AS AGREE. WHAT IS GOING ON?
ACTUALLY , WITH ALL THE IMPORTANT ISSUES GOING ON IN THE WORLD, I WOULD RATHER NOT HAVE GIVEN MY TIME ON SUCH A TRIVIAL MATTER.

OVER 3000 OF OUR FELLOW AMERICANS DIED IN IRAQ. THOUSANDS ARE COMING HOME MINUS LIMBS OR WITH PART OF THEIR SKULL MISSING.
WE HAVE PEOPLE LIVING ON THE STREETS, PEOPLE LOOSING THEIR JOBS AND HOMES . HIGH COST OF MEDICAL INSURANCE AND MEDICATION. ETC, ETC.

Manilow was smart not to go on this program which consists of a bunch of has-been, annoying women. I don’t think they could score 100 points on an IQ test if you combined all of their scores. Also, I don’t care what political standpoint they perpetuate, they continually show their ignorance. I gave up watching The View after Barbara Walters lost control of the program which was a long time ago. I have more important things to do than sit around and watch a bunch of semi-intelligent women display their ignorance on a daily basis and shout over each other to try and make their points - for what they’re worth.

As for those individuals who are submitting comments stating that Manilow hasn’t sold many records, you are showing your ignorance more than The View’s circle of clucking hens. The man has sold 75 million records. If he didn’t produce, do you really think that the Las Vegas Hilton would have him signed through 2008? You obviously don’t have any business sense either. If Manilow makes a simple request to have someone specific interview him, he has a right to do so. Sounds to me like the producers were setting him up. He’s there to discuss his new album, not political philosophy. Elizabeth is certainly welcome to her views and the world would be a dull place if everyone thought the same however, the girl is out of her league.

Let’s face it - Manilow is too big for this group of washed up nit-wits.

Most of the problem lies with the producers of the show. Not wanting to be seated next to Hasselbeck for what ever reason is his choice and his right. Not wanting to honor his simple request is disrespectful towards Manilow.
I’m not a fan of Manilow’s, but refusing to come on the show just because the producers won’t honor your request is smart. Why go where you won’t be shown a little respect.
Why wouldn’t they honor his simple request? Look what they did to Rosie by not going to a commerical like they said they did. Could it be for the ratings? ….Hmmm?
I’m all for getting rid of Hasselbeck for better ratings too.

To JL for JC

Did you read my comment? To reiterate - I said I have no problem with Elizabeth holding her own views. I have a problem with her using her guests as a platform for her views when they are their to promote their work, not get into a political debate.

Good Grief!

I support Barry Manilow! I think the View is blowing this out of preportion! For an entainer to ask for a simple request and then be bumped from the show is not right. I dont’ever watch the View except when someone I like may be on. All you hear is “YAP,YAP,YAP” if you are a guest or a guest host you can’t get a word in edgewise. ALSO, to whomever said that Barry hasen’t sold an album in years, excuse me you twit, Barry has sold over 70 million albums since he started and just released his 30th on Sept. 18, 2007. To the mistic who refrenced Barry as being homosexual, HOW DO YOU KNOW??? It’s none of yours or anyones business who what is.

I will never watch the view because of Elizabeth Hasselbeck. I quit watching when she started. She has no talent and is not interesting or smart. She has the most annoying way about her. If you got rid of her rating would go up…I would even start watching again.

When have we become closed minded to different views? I find Barry to be offensive. What makes America great is the diversity and different points of views. If we can’t even discuss and respect one another who are different than us, we have truly moved backwards as a society.

Hasselback sounds like a yipping dog. Her mouth goes on and on. I turn channels when she opens her mouth. She uses the show to spout her beliefs. I had hoped her contract would not be renewed. Merideth has class and I am happy she is on the today show. Whoopi is a very smart lady entertaining lady. Also enjoy Joy.
Leave Barry alone, I don’t blame him for not wanting to sit next to her.
