Stars Weigh in on Britney's VMA Comeback

As Britney Spears prepares to make her long-awaited comeback at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, the biggest names in Hollywood are weighing in on whether the embattled starlet can pull it off.

Jay-Z, who is nominated for two VMAs, told “Extra” he has high hopes for the star.

“Look at Mariah Carey,” he said. “She had one of the hugest comebacks in musical history. So, you can’t rule anyone out.”

In fact, the rap superstar said he wouldn’t rule out teaming up with Britney.

“Well, she’s a talent,” he said, but would only work with her “if it was natural and organic.”

He continued, “I wouldn’t want to just do it for the sake of just putting out a single. If the song was incredible, if she was serious about the project, then absolutely.”

Jay-Z is just one of many music greats who are in Britney’s corner.

Alicia Keys said, “I think that Britney is going to do fantastic. I think she knows who she wants to be, and she’s ready to do it now.”

Country crooner Carrie Underwood added, “She never ceases to amaze us, good or bad, but I think she’s going to do awesome.”

Ashlee Simpson, who made a comeback after an embarrassing lip-syncing gaffe on “Saturday Night Live,” said, “I wish her the best.”

Added Carmen Electra, “She’ll be great. She always makes her statement at the VMAs.”

It looks like everyone has their fingers crossed for Britney.

MTV’s star-studded competition kicks off Sunday night.

I must admit, it took a hell of a lot of nerve to wear a two-piece bikini at this juncture in her life. She’s a bit chunky right now, and maybe she should have worn something a bit more conservative. I was so busy looking at her midriff, it took away from the song.
She didn’t really give it her all; it didn’t seem as though her heart was in it. It was as if she was preoccupied with other things. Her timing for a comeback was too pre-mature. Take some time to get yourself together first, Brit. Raise your kids, and grow up a bit.

I think her body looked great. Is skinny skinny so desirable? Can’t weighing 107 instead of 100 be good? Maybe she weighs 115. She looked great to me. I’d rather have that body than a body like Paris H or Nicole or the Olsen twins. Britney has a womanly, sexy body.

All of her songs use voice synthesizers, and voice OVERS, so we never truly hear WHAT the girl sounds like…but it must be bad if she has to lip synch in person!

HOWEVER, as much as I am NOT a fan, I watched her comeback debut on VMA’S, and I felt SORRY for her !! I really did- I FELT her insecurity, and held my breath for her…I was actually saying “MOVE girl!!!” to the TV.

It has GOT to be hard for a celeb to fall, cause the higher you are, the harder the fall.
I do hope she gets help, sharpens her skills, and THEN maybe do the comeback thing.

britney is professional.. professional people dont confuse private life with their performance. britney must have been more ambitious and just done her best. that was not real britney. c’mon she even couldnt dance -best thing she can do- she needs support and therapy!

there’s a huge difference between the rehearsal and the vma performance. I’m sorry for her!

I can’t say anything about Brit’s performance and everyoby hasn;t already said but I just want to add that I am totally disgusted with Sarah Silverman. You can say whatever you want about Britney - she’s an adult - but talking about her kids that way is so offensive. MTV should apologize.

IM STARTIN TO THINK THAT THIS IS SOMETHING BRITNEY HAD TO COME UP WITH AT LAST MINUTE…I HAVE A HARD TIME THINKING THIS IS HOW SHE REALLY EXPECTED TO “COMEBACK”…THE BRITNEY I’VE WATCHED FOR OVER 10 YEARS NOW IS NOT THE ONE I SAW ON THAT STAGE…

I hope she doesn’t kill herself.

That’s what I keep thinking. I mean, she’s clearly lost her mind and having all this added negativity might push her over the edge. Yikes.

I am getting sick of reading about Britney’s performance being good considering what a mess she has made of her life. She is a performer. She is supposed to excel on the stage…that is her job! She shouldn’t get credit for a crap performance just because her personal life is a wreck. She was horrible, plain and simple. The only talent she showed at the VMA’s was that of being a scantily clad blond bomb. Her vivacious bomb*shell* days seem to be long gone. It may be time Spears try to work on developing some actual artistic talent.

I am not a fan of Silverman either, but if Spears is going to call that garbage a comeback, she deserves all the scorn that is being heaped upon her head. I don’t feel sorry for her at all.

all i have to say is…wouldn’t you feel nervous and scared performing for the first time with such high expectations, and so many people out there that want you to fail? I am not saying her performance was amazing or anything but give the girl a break…I wish I looked that good after having two kids!

I am tired of all of the Britney bashing. All of the nasty comments by the morning news shows and Sarah Silverman’s insults were rude, nasty and very unnecessary but I guess these news shows and Sarah Silverman count on bashing others to get ratings instead of offering real talent and real news. Regardless of what people expected, Britney still looked amazing and has made a great comeback. Perhaps her comeback did not fit into your preconceived notions but it was still a great comeback considering where she was last year. If any of you nasty and hurtful people think that you can do better maybe you should contact MTV to open the show next year. Small minded insecure people bash others to make themselves feel better.QAnA

I don’t know what was worse the totally non flattering outfit, the off tempo lip syncing, the horrible dance moves, or the clueless blank stare. I agree it’s difficult to watch someone crash and burn in a last ditch effort to save her career. She should hang up the sparkly underpants for good!!!

As a fan of Britney, I must admit this was incredibly hard to watch. I felt so much pain for her. The song is really good, and she didn’t do terrible by any means, but the thing is as far as a Britney Spears performance goes, it didn’t meet the high expectations that were surrounding it. I, personally, feel MTV shamelessly used her and then abused her, by doing nothing but promoting her “comeback” to draw in viewers, then as soon as they were done with her and had their audience, they allow Sarah Silverman to go out and bash Britney (and her kids!). Say what you want about Britney having little class, but the truth is, MTV & Sarah Silverman had the least amount of class in this situation.

That is NOT the game you bring to the VMAs - especially when they’re handing you a “comeback” on a silver platter. She could’ve turned it around - there was glimpses of the performer she was - but they were few & far between. Look to Chris Brown’s performance to see how it’s done.

She only proved one thing at the VMAs - she ain’t the next Madge

I’m not sure that Britney knew that this was her actual performance, because she half-assed her moves like she was in a dress rehearsal. She tripped over her own feet twice in the beginning (don’t think we didn’t notice, Brit) and she barely moved at all. And it’s not like she had to conserve energy for her singing, I’ve never seen more obvious lip synching in all of my life. And she might want to consult Janet Jackson’s trainer the next time she decides to step on stage in a bra and panties, because this was not attractive in the least. The celebs in the audience looked bored and disappointed. I think everyone was really expecting Britney to bring it, but the song sucks, her performance sucked, and I think it’s pretty safe to say that the Britney that the world came to know and love (or loathe) is definitely no more.
