Jon Stewart to Host the Oscars

“Daily Show” funnyman Jon Stewart has been tapped to host this year’s Academy Awards.

Producer Gil Cates announced this morning, "Jon was a terrific host for the 78th Awards. He is smart, quick, funny, loves movies and is a great guy. What else could one ask for?"

This will be Stewart's second run as Oscar host. In 2006, he took the stage to mixed but generally mild reviews.

Last year’s host Ellen DeGeneres brought in nearly 40 million viewers, while Stewart drew nearly 39 million.

But no host has come close to the legendary Billy Crystal, who was able to bring in 55 million viewers in 1998.

The 80th annual Oscars will take place at the Kodak Theater in February.
