Barry Manilow Refuses to Appear on 'The View'

Barry Manilow has refused to appear on ABC chat-fest “The View” citing his disagreement with conservative co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck's politics, and now “View” executives are speaking out.

Manilow posted on his website yesterday, “I wanted to let you know that I will no longer be on ‘The View’ tomorrow as scheduled. I had made a request that I be interviewed by Joy [Behar], Barbara [Walters] or Whoopi [Goldberg] but not Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Unfortunately, the show was not willing to accommodate this simple request, so I bowed out."

But sources tell "Extra" that it was "View" producers who pulled the plug on Barry, and not the other way around.

Last night on her radio show, Barbara Walters called his decision “too bad,” and executive producer Bill Geddie said, “We don’t do that…we support everybody…he’s not going to call the shots.”

Manilow has appeared on the show twice in the past year without any such requirements. His most recent appearance was in November, where he laughed and chatted with the entire cast, including Rosie O’Donnell.

Get EH off the show now. She is ruining the show.

EH is an extreme right-wing, narrow-minded Republican, exactly. Barry isn’t being narrow-minded. He doesn’t have to subject himself to the hours it takes to tape an interview with someone that does not believe in anything he believes in. He doesn’t need EH to sell music. And no one needs that type of stress.

When is The View going to see that EH is the PROBLEM? It wasn’t Star, or anyone else. It was ‘Liz’. I like Star, I like Whoopie, I can’t stand to listen to EH.

Barry Manilow——-One reason we’ll never have peace on earth————-intolerance of others and their “VIEWS”

I used to watch The View on and off and never appreciated a bunch of women sitting there talking about their own personal opinions on subjects. Who are they. The only one I respected was Starr Jones when she was on the show, because she was genuine and smart. Look at how Barbara Walters treated her. No thanks, The View, could keep their view to themselves. I don’t waste my time! Also, in regards to the issue with Barry Banilow, I love him and his music and if chooses to not be on the show and have Elizabeth interview him, that is his perogative. On the other hand, I admire Elizabeth for her strong beliefs, however I don’t respect people that are judgemental and disrespectful to others. God didn’t judge us, who are we to judge. This world needs to be kinder to each other. Peace and love!

I strongly disagree with both Mr. Manilow and Elizabeth. I believe the message we are trying to give round the world is that everyone is entitled to not only have their own opinion but to speak on that opinion. Silence by pressure is NEVER an option! Perhaps we should all stick with our day job.

The way to go Barry. Love your music and glad you stick up for what you believe. Can’t stand Elizabeth and won’t watch the show because of her.

I feel Elizabeth preaches on her christian beliefs, but always judges people just by her expressions that is not a true christian . Elizabeth tries to influce her politiacal views on others and if they don’t agree as she does she gets very defensive and wants to battel on air. I was very found of her until I saw this side of her and I was very sadden buy this because, I felt she was a true christian. I am not perfect by any means but, she seemed to be very sweet and I thought having her on the view was refreshing and she could turn people into thinking about being in the old time Leave it to beaver Mom, and the traditional way of life which I thought we could all learn from. She might be a Good and nice person but, she needs to read her bible learn that we should not Judge. Our Lord Our Father is the only one that can make that call. On the politics issue this is America, and as far as I know we can chose to be against war or for it that is our right. As for Barry not wanting to appear on the view that is his choice, love you Barry, thank’s for exercizing your rights.

I totally agree with Barry Manilow.
I can’t stand watching her for more than 2 min., why should he sit with her for more than 2 min. Listen to her a little closer and she is the one that is so closed minded it is very scary.

Typical liberal, not being equipped to face another opinion different from his own. Sad to need so much validation.

The view is just a platform for these women to complain about everyone else they need to take a very long look at themselves. I used to be a fan, but I’m not anymore. I hope the View will be canceled. All I can say is, didn’t your mothers teach you,If you cannot say anything nice then don’t say anything at all? If I were a guest on this show,I would be afraid to have a simple request. I hate what they would say about me.

I wonder when celebrities will figure out normal people do not care what they think. Everyone has the right to their “views”. Maybe Barry should live elsewhere instead of America. I will not purchase anything else that he has his hand in.Elisabeth rocks.

Is Manilow kidding? He is a singer, that’s all he is. I wonder who he THINKS he is to say he won’t be on the same stage with someone because they have different political views. As much as I detest that program, I give them credit for not caving in to his obscene demands. Barry - you lost a fan.

I Love Barry, Elizabeth is annoying and I love her on the view, only because she is a contant reminder of how narrow minded she is…and on the person who posted the ten commandments bid…please! there is not enough room on here to touch that one—which is a clear sign why you are on EH fan. Travel a little bit get out of your little box sometime!

I really love Barry Manilow music and have been a fan since the 70s but I am disapointed in him. Who cares what Elizabeth’s views are, he is there to sell his CD and entertain his fans. The ones he left behind for VEGAS. Being conservative is not all bad. AT least she is not afraid to talk about her beliefs in God. We should take our cue from Christ and the 2nd part of two greatest commandments Love your neighbor as yourself.
Oh well Barry we all make mistakes.

I don’t really blame Barry Manilow for not
wanting to be on the “View”, thanks to Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s hard-nosed Republican views, so hopefully he’ll eventually be a guest on the show someday soon, when the climate isn’t so, um, tense, I guess.
I’m a fan of his music, and I’m glad he has integrity.

EH is a right wing nut case who uses a liberal stage to pursue her agenda. Not all conservatives are dumb but all dumb people are conservatives. I am not a BM fan but thank God some one is finally taking a stand against this whack job. She needs to get a job at FOX. She is leech. UGH Can’t abide her!!
Go away already!! Alicia Silverstone stuck it to her one day. EH just doesn’t get it. Donald Trump said she is the dumbest person on TV.

Barry Manilow is a small minded bigot.
I wonder if it makes him sick if someone conservative buys his CD’s.
Elizabeth is usually out numbered 3 or 4 to one on political topics…but the show is about more than politics and I doubt the questions Elizabeth would have asked the closed minded Manilow would have even involved politics….
I feel sorry for him that he is so full of hate.
