'Good Morning America' Host Robin Roberts Has Breast Cancer

“Good Morning America” host Robin Roberts announced this morning she has breast cancer.

Roberts, 46, told viewers on the ABC program, “I didn’t want you to hear it from anyone else…I have breast cancer.”

Her cancer is still in the early stages, as doctors caught it early. An initial surgery is scheduled for Friday. She will undergo treatment for the next several months and continue hosting her morning program.

In a message written for “Good Morning America’s” website, Roberts said she discovered a lump during a routine self-examination. It was a poignant moment for Roberts – the find was made on the same day the show aired a tribute to friend Joel Siegel, who lost his battle with colon cancer in June.

“At first I thought, ‘This can't be. I am a young, healthy woman,’” she wrote.

But Roberts is confident, insisting that she will “move forward, as millions of people do when they hear this.”

Roberts finished her written statement with an emotional plea and a glimmer of hope: “And like my good friend Joel, I can't stress enough how important it is to get screened and checked for all cancers — and to do self breast exams. I am so blessed that I found this in the early stages and the prognosis is so promising that my doctor expects me to be flying planes and hanging on to submarines in the middle of the Atlantic and scaling the Mayan Pyramids in no time in the mornings to come. “

If you want to send well-wishes to Robin, post your comments here.

Dear Robin
I send this message to you by the power that is in the name of Jesus and His precious blood and command the spirit of cancer to leave your body now. By the authority vested in me as a child of the Great I AM, I command that lump in your breast to die and disapear. I declear that diagnosis null and void.
IN JESUS NAME-AMEN. GO AND BE HEALED

Congratulations Robin, I prayed for you and I am glad to see that you are still keeping on. I too now need prayers, I was just diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer and I am a black female only 40. I will have the port/node surgery next week, followed by my first round of chemo. I am being treated by Vanderbilt Cancer Center and they have been wonderful. I too have Faith in My Father and a huge support network, if there is any advice you could give, what would it be?

Great to see you looking so fabulous after Chemo and Radiation. I just finished my last Chemo treatment on 3-12-2008. I was wondering if after the radiation you will be taking a Hormonal treatment as well? My sister said that she has your show on every morning and something was said about Hormonal Treatments after Breast Cancer. I missed that show and was wondering what might have been said? My Dr. is wanting to put me on Tamoxifen. Just remember…Fear Knocked…No one was there because Faith Answered. Cure, Hope, Courage, and Strength!!

Dear Robin,
I have been watching GMA for many years. I was so moved by your announcement of having breast cancer that I wanted to write to you, but with some “challenges” with my computer, I did not find where to write to you.
This morning you “arrived” on the runway of life. Your beautiful strong face, your proud bearing and your perfect choice of royalty red brought a tear to my eye….once again.
Thank you for allowing the world to see your inner strength and faith. What a gift you have…and what a gift you are. God bless you.

I had my mom in our home for 13 years with alzheimers disease and I wish I would have had someone like you to listen to. I am not, in any way, glad you are going through any of this but you are such an inspiration to me. I have a doctors appt. on 2-18 and we are not sure what that is going to show. God bless you and I hope one day I can shake your hand and give you a hug. I hope that they never change the four people on Good Morning America. All the people have been great but all of you there now are the BEST.
You are in my prayers and thank you, thank you for who you are. Helen Marlowe.

Robin, I would just like to say that I am proud of how well you are dealing with this situation. All of the women; in my family, that have passed all died from cancer. Now I have one aunt that may be dealing with it again. Years ago, it was found in a breast and she refused to have it removed. Now, I wish and wonder that had she had an attitude like yourself would she be dealing with this now.
I wish you well and my family sends up prayers. We love you and can’t wait until the morning to see your beautiful self again, bald or not.
Mississippi love,

Robin..I saw GMA this morning and watched as you exposed tour baldness to the world. You are a beautiful person inside and out and you don’t need hair to prove it. I have watched GMA for many years and know how much you are loved by so many people of whom you have never met (I am one of them)
I was devistated when I heard you had breast cancer but know that you are going to beat this. Just stay strong and have a positive attitude and use humor. (that is how I am getting through it(I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2001 and had a stem cell transplant in January of 2005. I lost my hair three times through all of the treatments, but it always came back (always differant) ha
It never bothered me when I lost my hair, the way I used to look at it was that I never had a bad hair day, I saved on shampoo and conditioner and it was a lot cooler in the summer.
Robin, I just wanted to let you know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
God Bless You.

Hello Robin,

You are one of the most beautiful bald women in the world. My husband and I wish you continued and speedy recovery. Your courage transends and helps so many people who see and listen to you.

If I may, I’d also like to say that the multicultural team assembled at GMA make us want to wake up early each morning so as never to miss all of you.
Thanks you

Robin I myself had breast cancer 4 years ago. I am a survivor. I had 2 different cancers in 1 tumor. It was removed, then I had intensive chemotherapy and then 35 sessions of radiation. I was very blessed with very good doctors. My family and friends were a constant source of support. You are NOT alone with this journey. Many of us have gone before. God bless you during your treatments and recovery. You will be fine.

Dear Robin, I watched the show when you announced your diagnosis. Little did I know that in no time at all, I would be daignosed with Breast cancer as well. I
am now awaiting consultation with my doctor for the next step. I must tell you that I am praying it is early for me as well. I am frightened but I also have a strong faith and relationship with God. My prayers are for you as well. Thank you for sharing your story, because it resulted in me checking myself more closely.
