Isaiah Washington Off of 'Grey's Anatomy'

Washington: 'I'm Mad as Hell and I'm Not Going to Take It Anymore.'

ABC Television Studios announced Friday morning that Isaiah Washington’s contract will not be renewed for next season – in other words, he’s been fired.

“Grey’s Anatomy” creator Shonda Rhimes called Isaiah this morning and informed him of the decision.

TV Guide reported that the decision was made based on “a pattern of problematic behavior.”

Several months ago, Isaiah created a firestorm of controversy when he allegedly used an anti-gay slur to describe fellow castmate T.R. Knight.

Then, at the Golden Globe Awards in January, he said the same thing backstage when trying to deny he’d said it in the first place.

“Grey’s” star Katherine Heigl, who describes T.R. as one of her “best friends,” was furious at Isaiah, and she let him know it.

Gay rights groups, and Heigl herself, immediately demanded an apology from Isaiah.

Since then, Isaiah has tried to make amends, seeking therapy, meeting with officials from gay rights groups, and even filming a public service announcement in which he said “words have power” to hurt or heal.

But after he made the comment, it seemed the damage was irreparable.

Last month’s “Grey’s” finale opened the door for Isaiah to leave – and not come back – after his character’s marriage to Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) was delayed, and he cleaned out their apartment.

Today, Isaiah released a statement, saying, “I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore.”

This comment is to all blacks and whites. There are ignorant people are of every culture not just one culture in particular. Although society would like to you to believe that it is , I beg to differ, I agree there is freedom of speech, but its being used out of contents, I believe if it wasnt in the media that he spoke about it, he shouldnt lose his job. I too will no longer watch the show. Just some food for thought he needs to stop being a trouble maker if he did imply that he’s a fag and the other one needs to just be proud of whom he is.

Hollywoods version of freedom of speech
is “I have the freedom to do and say what I want and you have to do and say what I want.”

Alec Baldwin and Rosie said far worse but since their political beliefs reflect the beliefs of Hollywood they are forgiven.

to the ignorant kh i am a black american female and for your information we allll dont call ourselves the n word when we greet each other sooooo dont lump us all 2gether . i dont feel greys will be the same with out washington, if he did call his co-worker a fag he was wrong if he said it to hurt him i dont agree with certain behavior as far as engaging in same sex relationships but… 2 each his own and answer to your maker its your choice none of my business personally.

Do you not read. He was let go because of a pattern of problematic behavior. No job worth having puts up with someone who is always causing problems. Enjoyed Greys before and will enjoy it after his departure.

Unlawful Sexual Relations is forbiden. T.R should read the bible Leviticus chapter 18 verse 22. T. R. Knight and all those men and women who sleep with the same sex should read the entire chapter 18 of Leviticus. They should also read Jude chapter 1 verses 7 and 8, Romans chapter 1 verses 18 through 32, and 1st Corinthians chapter 6 verses 9 through 20. It seems as though the authorities responsible for Grey’s Anatomy approve of those who practice gay activities. (The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godless and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness - Romans 1:18). It seems as though people has lost all fear of God. However, I do hope they remember what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire. God almighty is watching us and we will feel His wrath if we do not change our actions.

Isaiah Washington, man will try to take bread out of your hands, but God will bless you with more than what man can offer. My prayers are with you and your family.

I am glad they fired him, do you know how many people would have been glad to star on Gray’s, including myself. Some of these actors act like they are GOD. Why can’t they just do their jobs and shut up? As long as the next man doesn’t affect my pay check,I personally don’t care if you are gay or not. God, gives them the wonderful gift of talent and they misuse it, how sad. Maybe, this will be a lesson to many more to make your money, and shut up about other peoples business, mind your own.

Crazy Texan,

You’re an idiot. How is that for freedom of speech!

Freedom of Speech isn’t about someone being allowed to make derrogatory comments. If a celebrity used the “n word” they would have been canned immediately. This is no different. You think that’s freedom of speech?

What happened to FREEDOM OF SPEECH? Hollywood has too much power period!
Gee it’s not ok for him to say faggot but ok for Paris Hilton to drive drunk and have the chance of killing someone innocent not once but 3 times?? We wonder why our world is so screwed up????

I’m glad he is no longer on the show… his pompus character reminded me of how he appeared in interviews, and the story line was doing NOTHING for the show…
Let’s move on…

I think it’s ridiculous. What about freedom of speech.Oh,that’s right-YOU HAVE THE FREEDOM TO SAY WHAT YOU WANT AND WE HAVE THE FREEDOM TO SAY WHAT YOU WANT US TO SAY.

I’m too is mad as HELL. You guys are firing Isiah Washington because supposely he said the Fagot word who witness it and so what if he did. If T.R is a fagot, did he not speak the truth. And listen to this HE choose this life style and he actually brought it on himself in being judge for interacting in a gay type of lifestyle.

Isiah didn’t choose his lifestyle for him but T.R joined a type of society that the world believe should exist those that are not gay. So as long as he’s gay the world will comment on it. Now will you fire the whole staff if they also called whom ever is on your cast fagot, gay, bi or what ever sexual preference orientation they choose than you wouldn’t have a SHOW AT ALL.

But you can’t stop people from saying what they want. But you can take action and I think You didn’t have to take his Job if you really don’t know if he said it. Believe it or not T.R will always be what he is no matter who’s judging him.

I don’t support anyone saying trying to hurt someone because of their culture, lifestyle or any type of preference right is right and wrong is wrong but I don’t think he said that. You didn’t have to fire him NOw I don’t care for Grey’s Anatomy

I’m glad that he was fired. As a man both black and gay I know all too well the hurt that results from bigotry. Gibson, Richards, Imus, and Washington all belong to the same loser…too stupid to keep their mouth shut club. Good for Grey’s!

I’m glad he was fired, even tho this stuff is ridiculous! Imus got fired, Michael Richards apology was rejected, Mel Gibson is Hollywood poison. Hey, if the crybabies and busybodies want their way all the time, this is what happens. We ARE all human, however, so it’s only a matter of time before there’s NO ONE to watch or be entertained by. We might as well start selling our TV’s NOW!

I’m very upset that they have dismissed Isiah Washington he made an effort to apologize and get help. Some people would of stayed behind what they have said and not even bother to try to fix things. His part was a great role how will they replace him. Isaih needs to come back or Grays will fall apart. We need him and Christina to work things out. Greys will not be the same without him at all. It will lose it’s flavor.

This response is to donnamay and Robert Montgomery you need to educate yourselves !!!!! Do you really think it’s okay to refer to T.R. Knight as a Fag? Maybe we should continue to call all blacks the N word as they all refer to themselves on greeting each other and don’t tell me Mr. Montgomery that your community doesn’t do that because I hear it regularly. Since when does a race OWN a word? Maybe we shouldn’t allow any blacks to use the word Cracker because that also seems to be a familiar word in the black community along with Honky !! As for you donnamy Washingtons comments have always been refered to as RACIST by the media or haven’t you read that !!!!!

The Washington guy was out of line with his slur. But, he should have not lost his job. Don Imus was at work when he was cited making ugly comments about the ladies of Rutgers. Washington was not on live ABC TV (at work) when he made his remarks.

Double standard sure and Washington was wrong, but what happened to free speech? I’ve heard worse from ABC sport announcers on a regular- “What a play, he sure can jump high.” Instead of he (the black man) made a smart play on the ball or with the ball).

Hello,

I liked Grey’s, but I will not watch any more. Although, I did not agree with Mr. Washington comments, I do NOT believe he should have been fired. Double standards exist in H-wood and in these United States on group relationships.

It is okay to ‘borrow’ (without paying for it) African American culture (you now call it POP culture), but is not okay for Mr. Washington to make a mistake and admit it.

I will make sure the youth in my 5000 member church spend more time reading since ABC has nothing worth watching on TV with strong Black African American men.

Rwanda and Sudan get little news coverage and Mr. Washington’s ill-fated comments has more air play. What’s wrong with ABC?

I will no longer watch Grey’s on ABC.

Thank you ABC executives,

In response to you Donna D, That’s true I did forget about O.J., my bad. But it’s just like that in hollywood not saying that hollywood just aims to dog blacks only, because they don’t I’m sure everyone has had a struggle, or hard times no matter what race and we get mad and don’t watch what we say or do. No matter what race you are we have all had those times where we act before we think and people get hurt, but the thing is to learn from our mistakes and we should all respect each other for who we are. Everybody has a different view on life and that’s what makes us different in our own way!!!!
