Isaiah Washington Off of 'Grey's Anatomy'

Washington: 'I'm Mad as Hell and I'm Not Going to Take It Anymore.'

ABC Television Studios announced Friday morning that Isaiah Washington’s contract will not be renewed for next season – in other words, he’s been fired.

“Grey’s Anatomy” creator Shonda Rhimes called Isaiah this morning and informed him of the decision.

TV Guide reported that the decision was made based on “a pattern of problematic behavior.”

Several months ago, Isaiah created a firestorm of controversy when he allegedly used an anti-gay slur to describe fellow castmate T.R. Knight.

Then, at the Golden Globe Awards in January, he said the same thing backstage when trying to deny he’d said it in the first place.

“Grey’s” star Katherine Heigl, who describes T.R. as one of her “best friends,” was furious at Isaiah, and she let him know it.

Gay rights groups, and Heigl herself, immediately demanded an apology from Isaiah.

Since then, Isaiah has tried to make amends, seeking therapy, meeting with officials from gay rights groups, and even filming a public service announcement in which he said “words have power” to hurt or heal.

But after he made the comment, it seemed the damage was irreparable.

Last month’s “Grey’s” finale opened the door for Isaiah to leave – and not come back – after his character’s marriage to Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) was delayed, and he cleaned out their apartment.

Today, Isaiah released a statement, saying, “I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore.”

Isiah Washington is his own worst enemy in this situation. He had trouble just coming forth with a sincere apology for unacceptable comments he had made. Why is anyone surprised he was left go from the show? The show is strong enough to make it without his character.

ABC, why? are you crazy? Why would you get rid of one of your shows strongest characters. Yes you can get rid of wimpy George who I liked in the beginning because you thought he had morals but obviously he doesnt since him and the stupid izzy character are involved. Get rid of them not Washington. I love you Isaiah as an actor, your wonderful and talented. Dont let these idiots get you down. We have all said things we wished we wouldnt have said out loud. ABC wrong move. Im truely disappointed in you and I WILL NO LONGER WATCH GREY’S ANATOMY.

There will be plenty more shows to take it’s place. Other networks will wise up and put a good show in its place and I will be wathing the other network. With out Burke, the show sucks!

Every entertainment show I watched had a clip of that witch Katherine Heigl going after Isaiah’s throat. No matter what he did to make ammends, she said it was not good enough.

That was probably what the hold out was about. She told them if they wanted her they had to get rid of him no matter what.

Because that is what happened.

How was she ever able to look at his wife and two small children knowing she went after their dad. What an evil witch! She gloats every chance she gets about it. It is sickening!

I know she knows how hard it is for an actor, much less than a Black actor to get work in Hollywood.

He had a role people could look up to and respect. The way that character carried himself was just plain beautiful to watch. He was tall, handsome, articulate, and oh so confident.

I guess it was too much for some people and this was the perfect bandwagon to jump on to get him off at any cost.

I can’t think about it anymore right now. I’m so disgusted!

I can’t wait until what goes around comes around.

I am not surprised. Hollywood has always treated Blacks differently than Whites. Washington was definetly wrong but for Grey’s to let him go was very wrong.

As for Katherine Heigl and TR Knigkht to pressure the network into letting Washington go is also wrong. They should feel some of the pain too, especially if Knight is gay. What is really wrong? Is he now ashamed of his sexual orientation?

I am also tired of people comparing the use of the “N” word and calling someone out for being gay. They not are the same.

Blacks have had to suffer serious hardships for 400 years, while the plyth of homosexuals is nothing compared to being Black. If a person cannot make a comment which happens to be true where’s the justice.

ABC has definetly shown its true colors by letting go of Washington. Grey’s has lost another viewer.

I said there is so much going on in my life and the world that I am not even going to get angry over this.

I did vow I would not watch the show anymore and that way I would not have any reminders of what happened and how much I would miss his character.

How they can just take your job away when you are trying to support your famiy is just crazy!

I hope and will continue to pray until it comes back in spades for T.R. Knight and Katherine Heigel for keeping that going until they finally and successfully ruined the man’s career and family.

I don’t understand how some of you will begin to put the word faggot and nigg#$ in the same category. Are you all serious? It seems as though we forgot what the word nigg@# stood for. If we chain up homosexuals and transport them thousands of miles in very inhumane conditions, kept them in bondage for hundreds of years, etc… and referred to them as foggots, then and only then, can we compare those two words. However, foggot is a derogatory word but from the looks of it is still not as taboo as the word nigg@#. Just look at all the post. how many people actually said the word fag and faggot, but has yet to spell out the word Nigg@#. See, that alone should say there is no way to compare those two words. So, please when commenting on this situation, don’t express this situation like these words are equal. Or washington’s comments if in fact he did say these things are equal to the racial remarks of imos and kramer, which was recorded, replayed, and heard by most americans who can even begin to comment on this situation.

Anybody who say degrating or derogatory words should be repremanded. It is never good to say them but look at the conditions in which kramer and imos said there comments. they were not secretly speaking their mines. they were boasting and speaking freely. Now, if washington would have called him a faggot during the show or publically then he should be fired. However, this was a very different situation. I guess if i want to do anything such as run for a goverment office, act in hollywood, or at the rate things are going, get a job as a sanitation worker, i better not say anything questionable to my friends on the phone, in person, or write it in my journal.

I personally love Grey’s Anatomy and the role of Preston Burke. But, Isaiah Washington made a huge mistake and deserved to be fired. His attempts to atone fell flat; there is no apologizing for a comment of that magnitude once it’s been said. Same as Don Imus, he deserved it.

?QUESTIONS?
Should the cost of private thoughts and conversations be your job?
Should homosexual rights group make people pay for private personal opinions?
And how did the word ‘gay’ become homosexual, when it used to mean happy?
