Whether or not a couple is married does not determine in any way what kinds of parents they are. It comes down to the how the couple treats each other and their children. It is easy to be committed without a piece of paper to prove it. Marriage, in my opinion, is not even very sanctified these days. Half of married couples get divorced, oftentimes of infidelity or spousal abuse. (Plus, many couples who are in love cannot even get married because of the law.) Since you do not know Johnny or Vanessa, I find it very unfair that you judge them, especially regarding something this personal. It is pretty sad, actually. We’re not in the 1950s anymore, you know, and even then marriage was not required to raise a loving and happy family.

The message to our children today is that they can have it all and not have to make a real commitment.Thus we see many who think they can just walk away from all responsibility just because they did not get married and the sad casualty of that wreckless and immature thinking has been the children. The message Johney is sending to his two children who were born out of wedlock is that he did not respect their Mother enough to make a serious commitment. He is telling them he is holding open his options to leave and has one foot out the door. Leaving no security for those he professes to love. It is one thing to live together sans any children. Quite another to bring children into a mess they did not ask to be born into. If they loved each other enough to make the serious choice to have children then they should be adult enough to make it legal to “protect” those children and give them a solid foundation in which they can grow.
