Tom Cruise: Helping the Rescue Workers of Sept. 11

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were at their philanthropic best in the Big Apple Thursday night, as they stormed New York to help raise money for the 9/11 New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project.

“Nearly six years later, many rescue workers are still paying a price for their heroic service at the World Trade Center,” Cruise told the crowd.

The project, while heroic in thought, has set off a firestorm of controversy in the New York papers.

While some medical experts claim the detox doesn’t work, Tom, the co-founder of the program, believes in the treatment based on the principals of Scientology.

“Day in, day out since September 2002, this project has proven that they do not have to suffer,” Cruise said. “Hundreds and hundreds of lives and families have been restored.”

Joining Tom at the $6,000 a plate dinner was “World Trade Center” actor Michael Pena and a parade of rescue workers who say their lives are better for having gone through the program.

“The only reason why I got better and my brother got better is because of you... because you people donated to this program,” admitted NYPD Lieutenant Owen McCafrey. ”And I want to say thank you Tom and Kate; if it wasn't for you this wouldn't be going on.”

And that is exactly the couple’s mission: “Every time I hear that someone is doing better... this night is incredibly gratifying. What it represents to me are the people who have gotten better... and their families... and their children,” Tom said.

The proceeds from last night’s event, including the $30,000 Tom paid for a special edition fire fighter Harley Davidson, went to the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project.

Why does Extra keep hounding Britney. We don’t careabout every little thing poor Britney does. Extra might be ridiculous, silly and so superficial but I think that it is time to tell them we are not like they. Stop with the Britney nonsense. Do you all remember what they did to Anna Nicole?

Extra didn’t care what havoc they wreaked for the poor woman after she lost her son just as long as they get an interview to distress the woman.

What I like about Tom Cruise is that he has a backbone and stands up for what he believes in. He’s the absolute opposite of gutless!

Warner Bros. can have American basher lefty Maggie Gyllenhaal or they can take back Rosie O’Donnell because Im cheering on for Disney to have the All American imagery and that is Katie Holmes. She outclasses the rest of them in every way.

This program is not for the critics for those who are in need and they’re happy and grateful to Tom. Reading news from CBS news,CNN,Insider,PR insider,Variety etc—the positives outweighs the bad rap. These are true heroes and Tom is their new hero now too and on TV channels I saw and videos online there is nothing but cheering and loving huge crowds for Tom and Katie. Major kudos to Tom for helping everyone foreign and domestic. Other pathetic stars are too busy helping other countries they cant even see the real crisis of their own backyards and fellow Americans.
You bet Im there for the movies of Tom and Im happy to hear about Katie’s comeback. And if Redstone is begging for Tom’s friendship its obvious Paramount didnt like the fact that Tom had other plans and that is running his own Studio MGM & U.A.
As for Baby Suri this is the cutest baby in Hollywood. When a person has it all you are the target of envy.

Its true Tom has been a crusader for our Sept.11 heroes since 2002 but his humanitarian works have been going on for a long time. I wish Tom and Katie all the best in their life together, their families and their careers.

Im fuming to see that Tom cant voice his opinions without some of the idiotic one sided media asking for his apology and picking on him all the time on anything he does while other celebs are busy doing drugs, doing outrageous immoral things and busy attacking our nation sounding like communists and they get away with everything. People that attack others should look into their own selves and lives to see any good deeds they have done.

Why does Tom comb his hair forward, it lookes stupid.

Also they comb baby Suri’s hair the same way. She is so cute, but this is also stupid.

How can it be a publicity stunt when Tom also risk awakening his usual critics like the New York Post aka Trash paper. What he does is inpirational and what’s really sad these days is that some people and some media have nothing to say and do but criticize. Just look at how they criticize Oprah’s Africa school as too strict and while the nation is mourning for Virginia Tech the media wastes no time debating about gun control and criticizing our police etc..
I say to the critics: What about you?
What have you done for this country and to those who are in need?
Instead of whining and bashing all the time DO SOMETHING!!!!
