'Idol's' Sanjaya Does D.C.

Hollywood hit the White House Correspondents Dinner over the weekend, where “American Idol’s” Sanjaya was in the house for the social event of the season.

President Bush, alongside Larry King, Charles Gibson, James Denton, Teri Hatcher and Sheryl Crow, all partied with the booted “Idol.”

New Jenny Craig poster girl Valerie Bertinelli was more hyped about meeting the controversial “A.I.” contestant than she was about losing 17 pounds in seven weeks.

“I’m so excited that Sanjaya’s going to be here,” she exclaimed.

Even Texas native President Bush is rumored to be aboard the Sanjaya bandwagon.

When asked whether he thinks the president watches “American Idol,” Sanjaya replied, “I hear he does, so that’s pretty cool.”

But the famous “Idol” reject admitted he’s overwhelmed by his sudden fame.

“This is crazy. I had no idea how much impact this had, so it’s really cool,” Sanjaya gushed.

Things weren’t so cool, however, between Sheryl Crow, Larry David’s wife Laurie and embattled Presidential aide Carl Rove; things turned ugly when the women approached him hoping to talk about global warming.

“He became very combative and then he asked us if we'd like to take our seats,” Crow told us.

“I’ve got to say, he was a little rude to us,” Laurie added.

GREAT STORY BETTY. I TOO FELL IN LOVE WITH THE YOUNG MAN NAMED, “SANJAYA”. IT WAS FUNNY TO ME THAT THE AMERICAN IDOL SHOW THOUGHT THAT THE TWEENIES WHERE JUST VOTING FOR HIS HAIR TO KEEP HIM ON THE SHOW. I’M IN MY 50’S AND I AS LONG AS TIME WOULD ALLOW, EACH WEEK, I VOTED. USUALLY 360 TO 380 VOTES. SANJAYA IS JUST SUCH A PLEASURE…ACTUALLY A TREASURE. WHEN HE WAS VOTED OFF OF THE SHOW, THE FUN LEFT, TOO. I WAS HAPPY TO SEE THAT JENNIFER LOPEZ AND MANY OTHERS, NOT ASSOCIATED WITH AM. IDOL, COULD SEE THAT HE IS A SPECIAL YOUNG MAN. AND AT A YOUNG 17 YEARS OF AGE. I AM PRAYING THAT SOMEONE, WITH THE ABILITY TO DO SO, WILL TAKE SANJAYA UNDER THEIR WING AND SEE THAT HE GETS THE HAND UP THAT EVERYONE NEEDS WHEN TRYING TO BREAK INTO THE BUSINESS OF SINGING, ACTING, OR MODELING. I KNOW THAT WITH HIS MANY TALENTS HE COULD SUCCEED AT ANY OR ALL OF THESE PROFESSIONS. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING MUCH MORE OF SANJAYA!

I am so glad the public is finally opening up to Sanjaya. Perhaps they will see what I noticed a long time ago - this young man is full of creative talent and ability. He is only just beginning to surface. It is only because of Sanjaya that I ever watched Idol this season. I looked forward to Sanjaya every week - even this week’s big show is disappointing to me without him there. All I can say is that he does have great talent, a creative energy & I 100% support him in anything he does.

GOOO SANJAYA GO!!! WE LOVE YOU!!

I really liked Sanjaya. He has a sweet
and soft voice almost like Frank Sinatra, a crooner. It was so unfair of all the commentaters saying how awful he was and how he was the worse singer.
I think he’s a winner even if it isn’t
on Idol.

I was moved to tears by the writing. Yes, Sanjaya is a ‘Class Act and a Winner’. Even Jay Leno was very impressed with Sanjaya on how he handled the unfairness from the Media.
Remember he is only 17 years old!!!

Sanjaya is truly my American Idol.

This “Tale of Sanjaya and Simon” is a bedtime story which I’ve written for my grandkids about Sanjaya.

Once upon a time there was a 17 year old teenager named Sanjaya who had a pleasant voice and liked to sing. He entered a national singing contest along with 1000’s of participants from all over the country. Sanjaya was thrilled when he was selected by the ‘professional judges of music’ to be one of the final 12 contestants to compete on national TV for the title of ‘singing idol.’ Each week there would be phone-in votes and the contestant who got the lowest score would be eliminated from the show.
Sadly from the start of the TV program Sanjaya was ridiculed each week by one of the judges, a man named Simon. Simon very rarely smiled and most of the time looked unhappy and uncomfortable. He almost always criticized Sanjaya in a destructive and hurtful manner.
Each week as Sanjaya finished his song he was greeted with comments by Simon such as “horrendous,” “horrible,” and other demeaning remarks.
Now, my dear grandchildren, you can imagine how Sanjaya felt. He was on national television with millions of viewers watching. He was doing his best and trying very hard to please. It might not have been what Simon liked or wanted to hear… but as I said Sanjaya did his best and really tried.
How did Sanjaya react to this criticism, you ask. He stood tall and politely smiled.
After several weeks Sanjaya received the lowest phone-in votes and he was off the show…It was one of the only times Simon looked happy and actually smiled.
Was Sanjaya a loser you ask. No, my dear grandchildren, Sanjaya was a great kid…softspoken, polite and a gentleman.
Please remember this story as you grow up. No matter how tough the competition or how cruel the criticism I want you to stand tall, smile, do your best ..and always “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.”
Then, no matter where you are or what you do, you will always be like Sanjaya….. a ‘Class Act’ and ‘a Winner’!!
