Don Imus' Number One Supporter: His Wife

Don Imus may be gone from CBS, but now everyone is working overtime to clean up the mess he left behind, and “Extra” has details on the all-new fallout.

“Wow, talk about a crash and burn,” movie legend Robert Redford said of the situation. “I think he’s been asking for it for a long time; you can’t get away with that stuff.”

Also in support of Imus’ termination was Oprah Winfrey, who appeared on “Larry King Live” Monday night.

“I have my own radio channel, and if someone on my radio channel had made such degrading remarks, I would have fired them,” she said.

Meanwhile, NFL great Tiki Barber, who starts his “Today” show gig on Monday, tackled the controversy for “Extra.”

“With great power comes a great responsibility,” Barber said. “And he's paying for it.”

“Extra” learned today that Imus is leaning on his wife, Deirdre, for support, as she sits in and takes over the morning show mic for her exiled husband.

“We hope to come to a healing at some point here,” the missus said.

Deirdre, the best selling author of “Green This!,” met the radio mogul in 1992 when she auditioned for a skit on his radio show.

They married two years later, and she was by her husband’s side Thursday night inside his private meeting with the Rutgers women’s basketball team.

“The hate mail being sent to them must stop. These women and courageous and beautiful,” Diedre said of the collegiate athletes.

So what’s next for the man with more than 40 years of radio experience attached to his name?

We’re told CBS will take a $15 million hit by killing the syndicated Imus show… but the big question is who will replace him.

Media Week’s Marc Berman gave “Extra” a few possible names.

“Look at somebody like a Ray Romano, or a Jerry Seinfeld, somebody like a Jamie Foxx, Steve Harvey,” Berman said. “There's a lot of old TV faces that could step in and do the job.”

We have a real double standard working here , Imus has appologized to the girls . But you have Sharpton and Jackson who are the first to dump on white peolple ie: the Duke Team unjustly accused no one has appologised to them but Sharpton and Jackson was there to try to ruin their lives. Imus did not invent the words he used if they ARE accepted as ok to use by black this is a free country we have one language if you can i can. no one objects when they call a white girl a ho. and trys to get them off the air. DOUBLE STANDARDS.

Imus got screwed by Sharpton and Jackson. I would be ashamed to be black if I had them speaking on my behalf. All they do is take up causes where their faces will be splattered all over TV. They probably still think OJ is innocent.

Sure,Imus was really out of line saying what he did, but it takes a big person to say I’m sorry, so get over it already! Leave him alone! All you hear on tv now is this, you would think he killed someone, just leave him alone!

The Hypocrisy of the holier-than-thou ambulance-chasing stake-out twins Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton in Ambushing Don Imus for using Mainstream and acceptable (By Blacks EVERYWHERE) hip-hop lingo does a great disservice to America and indicates all-to-clearly just how a small sour-grapes minority can manipulate Main-stream media and the vast Majority it services. This is a travesty and proves just how broken America is. Even Oprah, who’s prospered handsomely, is siding with the do-nothing Jackson and Sharpton. Maybe she should spend more time in HER Peoples’ neighborhoods and talk the talk and walk the walk. The better man lost, and so did the audience who’s vote proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are over 90% opposed to the lynching that just took place this week.

If Don Imus is fired, then we might as well fire Howard Stern to. And while were at it, we might as well get rid of and ban free speech to. There are to many people out there that are nit picking. Remember; you can please some of the people all the time, but you can’t please ALL of the people all the time. Firing Imus was a big mistake and I hope that more like him will come along to take his place.

I guess there is no more free speech. Imus got fired, but it’s ok for blacks call each other worse.

In this day and age racism should not be tolerated, and as far as the older generation (Imus), the old saying goes “If you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all”. If that doesn’t work then I say “Hit em were it hurts (the pocket book). Maybe then they will think before they open there mouth. After all our blood is the same color!

Firing Imus means there is no freedom of speech anymore. It was a joke! Blacks call each other names and it’s ok.

So Don Imus has been fired, then Rap and Hip Hop should be banned forever. This is reverse discrimination.

If the comments would have something to the effect of “ohh, those kites can fly” or something like “them spicy mommas are moving on the court like there’s free rice at the hoop” for a team made up of other ethnicities I believe the reactions would have been the same… fire him. Why is that because the majority of players were African Americans does the main stream think this is okay? I have heard comments like these in professional settings from people of different cultural, educational, and ethnic origins it still just does not sound right. In conversing with a couple of caucasian coworkers they advised me that they stopped going to a local bar because “the brothers starting hanging out there” it was funny, when I remarked “I’ve only ever seen rednecks there” they stopped laughing. Neither statement was respectful, but I’ve heard more the first rather than the latter. Personally I don’t want jabs taken at anyone regarding their ethnicity, religious affiliation, or their physical attributes — just their skill of the task at hand. What’s done in the dark always come to light tell Imus to walk into the light!

I think that Imus’ shouldn’t have gotten what he did for what he said. Yes, It was offensive, but look at everyone, not just in person, but on radios, T.v and just all around. We all make comments about different races whether its white, or black, Mexican, or what ever. Why is Imus’ the only one getting in trouble for that? Example. No matter where you go, Blacks are going to have it hard just because of there past, where ever you go, women are going to have it hard for the same reason. When you(A woman) get a job, the man will say “Well you’re here aren’t you?”, but do they know how much you did to get there? No, the just think if you got there you go there. Now I’m not trying to sound sexiest but it’s true. People are going to get it hard, people will make statements about each other no matter what race you are. I just ask why? Why should Imus’ be the one to get fired from his job just for making one statement on air when so many others would say something to someone just as bad on air and not get punished? Any questions, then please e-mail me. I would love to give my opinion. slav3_vampir3@yahoo.com

I WANT TO SAY EVEN THOUGH I DIDN’T REALLY LISTEN TO IMUS MUCH. LONG LONG AGO AS A CHILD HE WENT ON THE AIR AND HE WAS LIKE A STAPLE !! SHOCK JOCKS SAY THINGS LIKE THAT AND I KNOW THAT HE DIDN’T MEAN ANYTHING DEROGATORY BY THAT STATEMENT. HE WAS STUPID LIKE THAT SOMETIMES, ALMOST LIKE A WISE CRACKER ONCE IN AWHILE, BUT HE WAS HARMLESS. LISTEN I SAY WHOOPI ON THE OTHER AM WITH SPIKE LEE, GIVE ME A BREAK.. HE HATES WHITE PEOPLE, TALK ABOUT RACIST ! WHY DIDN’T THEY ASK MORE WHITE PEOPLE, MOSTLY EVERYONE THEY ASKED OR SHOWED ON TV WAS BLACK.I AM NOT RACIST BUT I KNOW WHEN I HEAR OR SEE ONE. I AM NOT AN IDIOT.1 MORE THING, I HEAR BLACK PEOPLE CONSTANTLY CALLIN WHITE PEOPLE ‘honkeys” SO IF U WANNA TALK ABOUT RACIST THEN THATS THE SAME THING. YOU DON’T SEE US CRYING, OUT LIFE IS RUINED ! THIS WORLD NEEDS A REAL REALITY CHECK!!! LIGHTEN UP,THESE ARE THE RACIST..THE ONES WITH THE PROBLEM,AL SHARPTON & JESSE JACKSON, SHOULD GET A REAL JOB!!!

Don Imus has raised over one hundred million dollars for children in need. If you can forget that, I guess you also thnk Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson are speaking on behalf of all African Americans. I don’t think so.
