Carrie Wins Big at CMT Awards; 'Idol' Goes Country

It’s time to mount up as the CMT Awards and “American Idol” prove country is king on primetime TV!

“Extra” was with country beauty Carrie Underwood in Nashville before the big awards show, where she denied rumors that she’s getting hitched to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.

“No, I’m so not getting married,” Carried told us

The blonde bombshell had everyone talking after she rocked the stage in a pair of metallic silver hot pants and a rousing rendition of her hit, “Before He Cheats.”

Before the night was through, Underwood also stormed the stage to take home top honors for “Video of the Year” and “Female Video of the Year.”

After she graciously accepted the awards, Carrie headed backstage to OK magazine’s exclusive photo room to open up about how “American Idol” changed her life.

“During ‘Idol’ it was pretty crazy; before then I was just your typical college student... ate a lot of ramen noodles,” she admitted.

As for that “A.I.” contestant currently stirring controversy, Sanjaya, Carrie revealed she likes his happy-go-lucky attitude.

“He seems very unfazed by a lot of the negativity,” she said.

“Extra” also got reaction from former “Idol,” Kellie Pickler, who said, “I think he’s a sweet kid. When I was there a few weeks ago he was very nice.”

Sanjaya and the rest of the contestants will be under the guidance of guest mentor Martina McBride on Tuesday night’s show.

“I don't usually get nervous. Performing on live television, however, is a different story,” McBride admitted. “I'll kind of... whew... breathe a sigh of relief when it's over.”

Don’t miss out on “American Idol’s” country music fun, Tuesday night on FOX!

I WATCH AMERICAN IDOL EVERY YEAR AND IT SEEMS LIKE EVERYONE VOTES FOR THE BLUES OR SOUL SINGERS.CARRIE MADE IT THROUGH TWO YEARS AGO WITH COUNTRY AND I WAS SO GLAD BUT THEN HERE COMES TAYLOR HICKS WHICH I COULD NOT STAND.DAUGHTRY SHOULD HAVE WON IT. BUT HE IS STILL DOING BETTER THEN HICKS WILL EVER DO. YOU HEAR MORE ABOUT THE ONES WHO DIDN’T WIN THEN YOU DO ABOUT HIM.WHEN THE OTHERS WERE GOING PLATIUM HE WAS JUST PUTTING OUT HIS FIRST CD.THAT SHOULD TELL US SOMETHING. I THINK BLAKE LEWIS SHOULD WIN THIS YEAR.IT SEEMS AS IF THE ONE WHO STANDS OUT ALWAYS WINS AND WITH HIS BEEBOP SOUND AND STYLE IS A 100% WINNER WITH HIS CD’S GOING OFF THE CHARTS BEYOND #1. HE WILL BE AROUND FOR A VERY LONG TIME.BUT THEN ANYONE THAT MAKES TO THE FINAL 6 IS GOING TO DO GOOD. YOU KNOW THEIR PHONES ARE RINGING LONG BEFORE IDOL IS OVER SO IT DOESN’T MATTER WHO WINS CUZ THEY ALL WIN.GO BLAKE GO.

We are very PROUD of you Carrie, I can’t think of anyone else more deserving of all the success you’ve had. Continue on that way up.

I have to concur with what Simon was trying to say when Ryan thumped him in tangent tone, Sanjaya was surprisingly very good last week, not so this week. The Country genre was also difficult for Lakisha and Chris, who along with Malakar should comprise the bottom three this week. I think it’s time for the run to end and Sanjaya should be the one to go, but, if America’s youth rules again, we may be saying goodbye to Chris Richardson or even one of the early favorites, Lakisha Jones.

The travesty continues…

Carrie was nurtured from the start, to win AI. She already had a record deal. But, she has proved she deserved to win, and her song, Before He Cheats, is a great one, and she sings it marvellously. The lyrics are not a good example for youngsters though. If a car is vandalised, the destroyer usually goes to prison!

Melinda sang the best song of the night, so she won’t be off!

Melinda won’t be voted off this week, as she picked a good song, unlike most of the others. But, Sanjaya is starting to wear thin, and he should not have whatever hairstyle AI choose for him, as he is really looking silly now. And, I don’t believe for a minute he is taking it seriously anymore.

As for the chap Simon said sang nazily. He did, and he always does, and that is never a nice sound. The men are all weak, weedy singers! I’m fed up and have not enjoyed American Idol, this season.

The problem with Country music is that a lot of the people that listen to Country refuse to listen to anything else. Every season before, there was a contestant that got as far as they did by refusing to sing anything other than country (last year it was Bucky Covington).

Consequently, country is also the genre of music most loathed by people that listen to any other genre. Therefore, by having a genre exclusive to country, American Idol is guaranteeing that the only people watching (and voting) tonight will be the people that listen to nothing but country.

Another interesting fact about Country: it’s the only genre of music that is racially and regionally exclusive, which would explain why in Season 5, Mandisa and Paris both found themselves in the bottom three. I don’t even need to see their performances to know that one of the three divas (Lakisha Jones, Jordin Sparks and Melinda Doolittle) will be voted off tomorrow.
