Barbara Walters on Rosie: 'We Hope She'll Stay On'

Amidst ongoing rumors of tension on the set of “The View,” Barbara Walters is setting the record straight about the hit morning show and one of its controversial co-hosts, Rosie O’Donnell.

“You can't do a show everyday with four people like us if we don't like each other,” Walters insisted. “I don't know if Rosie is going to stay on when her contract is up. I'm not sure Rosie knows. We hope she will stay on.”

Barbara also broke news about her Sunday night Oscar special.

At home with Ellen DeGeneres and girlfriend Portia de Rossi, Walters got the Oscar host to open up about her future.

“Ellen has never said this before to my knowledge, we asked her if she'd consider a late night show,” Walters revealed.

Ellen’s answer? “When my contract is up, we’ll see where I am. I’d definitely consider that.”

Barbara also sat down for a rare interview with Eddie Murphy, who feigned outrage when asked about his so-called career slump.

“A slump? I didn’t have no damn slump,” he told the legendary newswoman. “Let me tell you something Barbara Walters. People like ‘Pluto Nash,’ I met two or three. I know people that like ‘Golden Child’ too. This is an outrage on ABC.”

And what happens when Barbara asks Oscar-nominated “Dreamgirl” Jennifer Hudson whether she’ll thank Simon Cowell if she wins?

“I would probably thank ‘American Idol’ as a whole,” Hudson revealed. “Not him, but ‘American Idol.’”

I think Rosie would be better if she wasn’t that out speaking, too much that out speaking stuff can kill your career, especially with those reporters who like to twist what you say.
Btw Eddie murphy IS suffering from a career slump, pluto nash isn’t enough to save your butt murphy.

In response to Rosie asking a direct question to Elizabeth; shows how stupid Elizabeth is,she can’t even answer with a simple yes or no answer. I love Barbara Walters, Rosie, Joy, and even Star Jones and be-cause of them I have tolerated looking at Elizabeth and refrained from listening to her hassle attitude;she sure has the right last name, very descriptive. Once Rosie is gone I doubt if I will be a constant viewer; Rosie has given more than any one and for this egotistical egotist to be so rude in public, shows she not only needs anger management classes, but maybe be a constant companion to President Bush, with her rebelish attitude; I might even add that she needs a few political classes to learn how to keep her stupid mouth shut in public and learn from others because we sure can’t learn anything from her. She should stick to mother hood and stay away from the media; hopefully she is good at that. The Lord help us if there are many more around like her.

I have enjoyed Rosie O’Donnell for many years. She is a talented actress and commedian, not to mention her many philanthropic works. It is no secret that she is very liberal in her political and personal views. She makes no excuses for her personality. Donald Trump is the worst of libertines, cashing in on the fact that Rosie has an opinion about him. He was crude and she was not. He should be ashamed for the negative manner in which he responded to Rosie’s comments.
I will go out of my way to never support any future endeavor he markets, whether that be on the air waves or in real estate for public consumption.
Hang tough Rosie!!

Michael,
It is called The View, not Rosie’s Rants. She needs to go. Stop watching it is all I can say for those that have had enough. I have. I used to enjoy the show, until Rosie disgraced our troops, our President (not for his policies but attacked him personally, not right), and those that support the war. This very real war that without our brave young men she would be wearing a burka if our enemies had their way. Ms. O’Donnell is nothing but a parrot of the most defeatest and narrow minded socialist left wing blogosphere. Shame on her.

It amazes me how many complain about Rosie and her comments on the View but they keep watching. Why is that do you think? It’s because they don’t want to miss anything. Many of us agree with a lot of the statements that Rose makes but other personalities distort what Rosie says. O’Reilly warped what Rosie actually said. She did point out some questions that a lot of people are asking and it’s about time that someone that has an audience is putting a voice too. And of course the war is about money. That said it doesn’t mean that is why our brave service peoel went or serve at the digression of Bush.

How would you like it if everything you said was analyzed?
It’s very hard to pass judgment on someone you don’t know. People seem to think that they know things when they clearly do not. You don’t know what goes on behind closed doors or what’s in someone’s heart. If you are bitter and filled with hate, people can see that and will steer clear of you. Because they know that deep down inside you hate yourself and do not know how to love others.

These rumours (so-called) I’d be curious to know how! they get started? Are there people behind the scenes who watch and listen to everything going on between the co-hosts, backstage and if something amiss is heard, then it’s just assumed that there’s this high tension going on?? Only Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie, executive producers of The View and the “suits” upstairs, know what’s really happening. Hmmmmmn??

Yes, Rosie O’Donnell is opinionated. She has opinions like most of us do and I wasn’t aware that having opinions and…expressing them, was a bad thing. What happened to freedom of speech? Rosie and Elisabeth Hasselback, are good friends even though they have polar differences about politics.
When Rosie’s contract is up, I definitely hope she’ll re-sign. I adore her and her humour. She’s a comedian, a comic who acts, Joy Behar is a comic…there is a difference. I love Joy too. Both women are very funny and always ‘crack’ me up.

I have enjoyed The View, since it came on. It shows different sections of America’s cultures. I would though like to see all ethnic groups represented. Indians, Asians, such as these! Interviews with poets, writers that are not big money makers, yet are gifted and have a place in everyday life. Interview Melissa Etheridge, Martina, Billy Jean King, Ellen Degeneres, political person’s who are gay and the straight ones who have family members. Interview the anti-gay powerful people, see the hatred close up. See the power of hatred, see their reasonings, how simular their words are to the pre-civil rights speeches and actions. The self righteous, ugly american fuming and delighted in their being judges of others. ( Knowing they have the money and power) The Bill Of Rights having no effect on their actions nor on their like minded mass. Show now, the beauty of our country, of our people, the everyday struggling ones. The ones who know the price of groceries, of what utility, healthcare ( meds, drs., hospitals and ambulance rides), car insurance, gas, repairs of any kind cost! The ones who choose between food and a place to live in or meds to stay alive! Rosie is crude at times, yes, yet she brings that part of our culture to the show. Outspoken people are needed also in this society. So many are not speaking out, the masses have become the deafening silence in our country. People sitting back, saying what they think and feel, to only family and friends. Some afraid to even speak out to those closet. We have become to many parts of the world. Truly the ugly americans. We have so much more to us as a country! As to individuals, not just to the ugliest shown to others. Rosie shows the naked truth and also the hidden ugly and beauty parts of our society. Her beauty, her wit, yes even her faults. They are so needed, she is the voice of those made silent and ones choosing to be silent. The View may well be continued without Rosie. I question though, can the silent souls in America, the good souls, the ones other countries never hear? Can the silent people do without Rosie and people like Rosie? Visit Colorado, such a beautiful state, with some very beautiful people (souls). Hear and see the Focus on the Family and New Life church persons. The loud voices of power, of anger and of lack of tolerance. I wonder why Focus On The Family, does not just Focus on their own dang family? How they silence the voices , they do not want to hear. The gays and others not recognized, silenced and “shunned”. The reflections seen by people worldwide, the ugly americans, I think Rosie shows the ugly of our society and the beautiful. Sad in a nation that our political leaders say, has all these Rights, Rights that are due us! That so many common rights are denied. What really has happened to everyone having the same rights? Maybe only a chosen amount have the right to the “pursuit of Happiness,” and the complete rights of our own constitution. Shut up Rosie, shut up all the different crude, uncouth citizens. Shut up all who disagree with the powerful people. I am just a commoner, a peasant, yes the poor. Not homeless (been there). Will they shut up the multitudes of people who are the silent masses. They have been silent so long and when they start whispering, some murmer, start thinking aloud, when they start trying harder and harder to be heard. Shut them up! Seems society’s rich and powerful can do that. Keep talking Rosie, keep thinking, feeling and encourage the silent masses to speak louder. Maybe, just maybe , there is a hippie still alive, a strong, rich, powerful free thinker, a humanitarian in the deafening silence. Maybe just maybe, the beautiful american, can be in the limelight around the world. Maybe , oh maybe, truth can be seen about us! Our not so good parts of us , as wll as the lovely parts of us. Shown to the world. Ponderings like this maybe trivial to many, still maybe, yes maybe! There are silent masses out there pondering too about the “Rights” given to all, by the government and silently put down. I wish you all the Pursuit and the gaining of your Happiness. You may never see the Gaining of individual Happiness of the masses, on the Network. Eat, drink and be happy for right now, that may someday be just a memory too! Way to go Rosie, never shut up! Sincerely, bjwj

Ah come on! Instead of calling Rosie a liar, how about stating why you think she made untrue statements? And Rosie would be the first one to say she is not a ‘classy’ woman, but she has just as much right to be on the show. If all the women were the same, the show would not be so interesting. Barbara is a very clever woman and she knew what she was doing by having Rosie on the show. The ratings went up! Enough said! All the women get on well enough to talk about their opinions, and there is no obvious dislike going on. The show is about opinions, and not always the ones of the viewers. It’s just that some of these ‘viewers’ can’t take it.
