'American Idol' Producer Promises Biggest Surprise Yet

During a recent phone interview, “American Idol” head honcho Nigel Lythgoe came face to face with the rumors that Michael Jackson will appear on the hit FOX reality show.

“It’s not true,” Lythgoe said. “Just not true… we won’t be seeing him.”

But “Idol” fans won’t be disappointed, as Nigel promised the best has yet to come.

“Please look toward a major news announcement in the next couple weeks,” he teased, adding, “It's the biggest thing that's happened to ‘Idol’ in five years!”

So what’s the surprise? Tune into “Idol” every week on FOX to find out!

If Sujaya does not get off this show this week…I sincerely doubt that American Idol (my favorite) will not be on or watched by millions of fans next year.
Do something…he is not an American Idol…and he surely cannot sing.

I hope the surprise IS replacing Ryan. He is the epitome of the smarmy phoniness of the Hollywood scene. He (and Paula) spend their precious camera time stroking the contestants’ egos, while, at the same time, making hissy, (albeit ineffectual) childish comments to Simon, the brain behind the entire operation. Notice how he’s the only one who stays quiet during the others’ critiques. Wake up, guys - it’s not a popularity contest. When entering any sort of art field, you are met w/ the criticism you must learn to deflect and/or digest in order to excel. The worst will usually come from those on the outside looking in. Hey, I’m just delighted to have a fast-forward button to silence the seacrest!

I could not agree with you more, Gloria. The producers are sorely mistaken if they think the show has “grown” past being all about Simon and is now focused on big names to boost ratings. Simon IS American Idol, and without him, there would be no show at all. If this “surprise” is something that is going to take the camera off him, we don’t want it.

To whom it may concern,
My name is Gloria and I never, I repeat, never miss American Idol. I simply adore Simon. If it wasn’t for him, I don’t think there would be a show. The couple of times in all the years that American Idol has been seen on television that Simon wasn’t sitting in his seat with Paula and Randy, it wasn’t the same. His quirky statements is what my husband and I wait for. We get such laughs out of him, it just makes our day. We find also that he seems to be the only one that says exactly what needs to be said to the contestant. Not the embarressing things, but whether the person is on the money or not. The show is not a game. You need the girl or guy that could sing as well as the winners, excluding the big heavy winner that won two-three years ago. You see, he was so good, I forgot his name. He shouldn’t have won. Clay was so much better. I don’t know how that got so messed up.
We look forward to watching this show and we will always watch this show UNLESS Simon is no longer there.
I like Randy and Paula but I find Paula just goes round and round and says how cute they are or they look nice, and Randy sometimes is right on the money, Sometimes. But honestly, Simon has never been wrong picking the right person,
Thank you for letting me write what I feel.
Gloria

I’m personally hoping that the “big surprise” is them replacing Ryan. No, just kidding. But seriously, the “big surprise” is probably somebody like Mariah Carey on the show or something. It’s somethng big, obviously. Let’s just hope we find out soon.

After the big “event” at last year’s finale was a totally unwanted and very forgettable performance by Prince, this “surprise” is most likely going to be the biggest disappointment since Sea Monkeys. If it involves big name performances while the judges are kept in the background, as they were at last season’s finale, then thanks, but I pass. Idol has all the star power that it needs in Simon, Paula, Randy, Ryan, and the contestants. As the show grows in its phenomenon status, it should become less dependent on marquee names to draw viewers, not more. Nobody remembered Prince’s performance the minute it ended, but almost four years later, everyone is still talking about Simon and Paula’s kiss.
