Stars Ski into Sundance Film Festival

From Michael Douglas and Gwyneth Paltrow to Nick Nolte, Hollywood is heading to the winter wonderland that is the 2007 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

The man who started it all, Robert Redford, talked to "Extra" about a new year and new faces.

So how does the legendary Redford feel about pop culture icons, such as Justin Timberlake and Lindsay Lohan, being featured at the prestigious festival?

"Film is about storytelling," he said. "If you're a singer or a band or whatever, you're all in the business of storytelling."

The storytelling got rolling at Sundance with Nick Nolte's animated documentary, "Chicago 10."

"It's nice to open the festival," Nolte admitted.

This year's Sundance also includes Dakota Fanning unleashing her most provocative movie yet as a victim of rape in "Hound Dog."

As for the controversy surrounding her new role, Redford acknowledged, "Those are issues that are on the table whether we want to face them or not."

However, Park City will be missing a little something this year at Sundance: Mr. Redford himself. He is starting work on a movie with Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep.

While Redford may be leaving, "Extra" will be hitting the slopes with the stars and then chatting with them all in our very own Airborne Lounge at Harry O's on Main Street.

So stay tuned to "Extra" for everything Sundance, because only we have your front row seat to the coolest festival in town!

I just wanted to know if the movie is going to be in the theatres and when the public is able to see it.

Two Different Things:
the 10 Commandments outside of a Courthouse and being allowed to say a prayer in a public school school is a totally different issue, here you are talking about religion, you cannot force your religion beliefs on someone else.
boys & girls being raped happens all the time but no one ever touches the subject only talk shows, and it’s about time that someone addresses it… linda bliar’s situation is very different from dakota’s situation.. we are talking about that back then (what 30 years ago) child labor laws were very different, child actors are protected more now in all senses and I don’t know if you have seen dakota in interviews but she is very smart and she is very well put together .if you have read also there is no nudity involved but they have said that the rape scene is quite real.. I am a male and I was raped by my father, I do believe it’s about time someone showed a very important movie like this because they will show the side of a young victim and things they do to escape the horrible things that happens to them, my thing to escape the bad memories is music, in dakota’s case in the movie it’s elvis’s music. I for one am glad that an actress as amazing as dakota is doing this movie for she has the talent and emotion to do it justice… also I believe dakota is the one that wanted to do this movie for the same reason that she wants to tell the story from a victims point of view.. all I can say is bravo for dakota for being an intelligent and amazing actress…

So let me get this straight:

We’re not allowed to have the 10 Commandments outside of a Courthouse, no one’s allowed to say a prayer in a public school (less you offend someone), but it’s okay to show a 12 year old girl getting raped in a movie??

What the hell is wrong with people, in particular, the parents of this little girl?! Obviously, dollar signs count for more than common sense or morality and I put Dakota’s parents on the same level as Linda Blair’s mother: totally irresponsible and sick for “supporting” their children in these sick roles.

I hope the FBI steps in and prevents this scene from being seen. And I highly doubt that it’s being shown to “help other girls who might be suffering like this” as is being publically said. Hollywood knows that controversy sells and makes the big bucks.

I think dakota is the perfect person for this type of movie, not only is she a mature young lady but also a very talented actress… if anyone can pull this off it’s dakota…

Hello EXTRA. I would like to post a comment regarding Dakota Fanning’s upcoming movie, Hound Dog. Though she may be 12-years old I feel that Dakota is a highly intelligent and mature young lady. I feel she has every right to choose the roles she plays, even more so if her parents and family support her career. Putting child abuse and child sex abuse on the big screen needs to be done in a realistic manner so people across the world come face to face with how real the problem is. I feel Dakota can do just this. Not only is she a talented actress, she believes in herself. That is important.

Hi Extra

I wanted to comment on the controversy surrounding the movie Hound Dog. I think the whole issue is a repeat of the 70’s and 80’s when the world was spinning around something called censorship-I look at it like this, the film makers have the right to make the movie, the actors have the final say in whether or not they want to do the film, grant it Dakota is only 12yrs old and her parents should also be part of the deceision making but on the other hand Dakota is a lot more mature than any other 12yr old. We should do what we did when the record companies wanted to put warning labels on the CD’s,that was fine to let people know about the contents but it is up to us whether or not we want to buy it. Just like people make comments about things they don’t like on TV,in my opinon they have no right to complain just don’t watch,to say, hey they shouldn’t put that on tv, is censorship. So the bottom line is punish the film by not going to see it,it’s only the sicko’s that want to go see a 12yr get raped.
Dakota has yet a lot to learn,if no one goes to see it-or if the critics give it a bad review maybe she’ll learn a lesson. Thank You.
