Tyra Banks: 'It's A Choice to Be 161 Pounds'

Tyra Banks is back in the bathing suit that set off a front page weight debate on Thursday’s episode of “The Tyra Banks Show.”

The daytime queen sat down for an “Extra” exclusive to discuss why she decided to fire back at the critics, who have called her everything from “America’s Next Top Waddle” to “Tyra Porkchops.”

“They were saying such awful things,” Tyra admitted. “I was like I have to say something.”

The controversy started with the click of a paparazzi camera on an Australian beach. Tyra, who weighed 130 pounds at the height of her supermodel fame, said she’s happier a little heaver.

“It’s a choice for me to be 161 pounds,” the supermodel insisted. “I’ve modeled for so long, I know how to lose weight.”

Now, in an emotional interview, Tyra opens up about her lifelong battle with body image and her struggle to stay thin in the spotlight.

“I tried to stay off the scale as much as possible in my modeling career,” Tyra said. “I didn’t look at that thing.”

For more on Tyra’s sweet revenge, tune into “Extra” on Wednesday.

First, to the commenter who weighs 120 and is 5’8” to 5’10” and male. All I have to say is put down the crack and step away from the drugs. You need a burger. For the rest of you, the national medical standards are 5 pounds for every inch above 5 ft tall to be health and that varies 3 to 5 depending in frame. Furthermore, stars need to stop lying about there weights to the media. I am 5’11 to 6’0” foot female, weight 159 pounds and I wear 5’s and 6’s everyone including my doctor says I and getting too thin. So get off the scale numbers and into reality. It is aout how you feel in your own skin!!!!!!!!!!

I think there is a difference between fat, and having the proper weight for your body type.
I have found this to be true, from what I have seen, minorities will always have more trouble (in general) keeping their ideal weight. This is more than diet. (We all know many people groups enjoy things like fresh baked bread, that can put on the pounds) I’ve seen hispanics and blacks have the same exercise and diet routine as a white person and not loose nearly as much. I’m Arabic and hispanic my self and have ALWAYS been over weight.
It’s also difficult living in a dominatly white model world. Let me tell you something, what makes minorities beautiful is the curves they have! Italians, hispanics, greeks, Arabs, Indians, Africans, we all have curves! I’m telling you, a hispanic woman standing at 5’2” is going to weight more than a white woman at the same hight, generally. However, it’s not about weight, it’s about being at the best weight for your body type. It’s about being healthy.
I haven’t seen full bodied pictures of Tyra in a while, but I remember seeing one a while ago and she had lost a lot of weight. Frankly, I think she looked prettier before with a little extra weight. The curves are beautiful.

MORE PEOPLE NEED TO DO WHAT YOU’VE DONE!!! As a 21 year-old young lady, I dont think you are fat at all.. Fat is having tire rolls on your stomach.. not being able to breath walking up stairs.. THe person that commented on the pic with her in the white..THAT IS NOT FAT!!! people are retards.. take it from someone going into the health profession… Fat.. is different for everyone.. and TYRA AINT IT! Her shape is ideal, MEN respect curves.. (any race) and just because ribs are not showing.. does not signify fat… ALSO, I hate the fact that a plus size model IS a SIZE 6-10.. WHAT?!? if you dont see a problem with that, then you’re a victim of media hype.

GO tyra… speech the thruth!

Thank you for being so real. As a parent of a seventeen year old daughter, image is and has been a constact focus for my daughter. Imagine my pleasure when my beautiful daughter opened up to me on issues that have affected her on her appearance and identifying with you and all the hurtful comments that have been made about your appearance. She could not believe they were questioning your beauty. I believe my daughter finally gets it, that certain people have to been mean just to gain attention for something that is in fact their weakness. Thank you for your courage in speaking out on this and every issue. You are beautiful and you have helped a parent teach and raise a daughter with esteem. You have made a difference!!!

Tyra I am very proud of you for standing up to your critics. You keep it real, there are millions of women out there who can relate to what you are saying. Those people are losers, and are envious of your’e sucess. Their behavior demonstrates that they are lacking something in their own lives. They choose to use their time to hurt and insult you over something trivial such as weight that is none of their goddamn business. Continue what you are doing you are doing you are an intelligent ,articulate and beautiful black woman that has made something of herself and they hate that

Tyra:Dont let them beat you down. And meaning them is the sleazy slimy media or tabloids for all that matter. It’s better to look healthy than looking like a drawn out emaciated crackhead look like some of the so called hollywood talent that is around .
