NBC Adds Fourth Hour to 'Today'

As “Extra” first reported, NBC announced it will expand the “Today” show.

In order to accommodate a four hour, the network has cancelled its daytime soap “Passions,” which will likely continue through August, while insiders says the new “Today” show is slated to begin in September.

But loyal “Passions” lovers don’t cry just yet: there is mounting speculation that NBC will continue with its soap, but perhaps on a different platform.

You can be sure “Extra” will keep you informed on all the latest happenings!

I really hope that it is considered for Passions to stay on. I watch the show everday and I have watched if for me years. I have watched this show since I was a teen and have stayed faithful to it. I so hope this isn’t the end..

Don’t let passions go, this battle has not been one and passion fans will fight for their show. Leave passions alone, don’t be gready. You already have 3 hours. there is only so much you talk about in one day.

A passanate passions fan, Passion

I want to take this opportunity to appeal to the powers that be at NBC…Please do not cancel Passions in favor of another hour of the Today Show. I understand that they may feel it is a necessity, but it seems like there are a lot of viewers who feel like a four hour news show is a little too much. I am not trying to talk down the Today Show, Im sure there are people out there who love it, but daytime viewing shouldnt consisit of all news. If you think about it you will have all news until 12:30 each day, because most of your affiliates have their own local news on for an hour before the Today Show begins and then again after 4 hours of this show, local news will come on again. There has to be a way that you can keep Passions on.

If NBC cancels Passions and moves Days to ABC I will not watch anything on NBC any more. Cut Ellen Opra and Dr.Phil ..If we want cancelling we can to to a Dr. of our choice. I agree that today doesnt need 4 hrs of Al..Merith or Matt. NBC is becoming a talk show den and the reaility shows are just as bad. Cut them not our soaps.

These comments will be written 23/7
the hour not included is the one we will be watching passions.
3 hours is enough take it while you still air. Half your viewers watch passions, and they are much more loyal to passions the the today show. Dan’t take passions away.

Passions is an original show that everyone I know watches. The fan base may not be gigantic, but it is fiercely loyal. We have weathered dragging story lines and numerous recastings and are still watching. It sucks you in like no other soap I’ve seen. They may say women work and don’t get to see it, but what in a world full of gadgets like vcr’s, tivo, and episodes online, that argument is hardly airtight. Please help us keep our guilty pleasure.

Passions is and will always be a groundbreaking show. The network needs to be carefull and start rethinking its ways. 20 hours a week is to much for the news, but then you have to add in the local news and the national news it comes out between 25-30hours a week devoted to news. NBC is going to regret the decision to cancell Passions, how much money are they going to make when people stop watching the channel all together. Did they even consider making Passions a half hour? The network that picks up this show would be doing themselves a huge favor. I beleive that Passions viewers are not only loyal to Passions but the network that is playing it. Please someone else pick up Passions the show is to good to end.
