NBC Adds Fourth Hour to 'Today'

As “Extra” first reported, NBC announced it will expand the “Today” show.

In order to accommodate a four hour, the network has cancelled its daytime soap “Passions,” which will likely continue through August, while insiders says the new “Today” show is slated to begin in September.

But loyal “Passions” lovers don’t cry just yet: there is mounting speculation that NBC will continue with its soap, but perhaps on a different platform.

You can be sure “Extra” will keep you informed on all the latest happenings!

I am looking for the title of a book that Kathy Lee and Hoda had on their show….It was named after the Grandmother who had written down instruction for her daughter on all domestic jobs from shoppin to ironing and everything in between….I believe her name was Luci…can anyone help me…I really need this for a man who just lost his wife and is smart as a whip but helpless in the home….thank you Vickie

I AM BOYCOTTING NBC UNTIL THEY BRING PASSIONS BACK TO US. I WILL NEVER EVER WATCH ONE SINGLE SHOW ON THAT NETWORK FOR THIER SELFISH DECISION. WHEN PASSIONS IS BACK ON NBC I WILL START WATCHING PASSIONS, DAYS OF OUR LIVES, THE TONIGHT SHOW, AND MANY OTHERS AGAIN.

Hi Everyone,

I had heard something about Today show adding a 4th hour and my thought was, “It’s not gonna make it, the 3rd hour of Today show is so boring. I watch elsewhere.” I love the addition of Meredith Viera! While Ann Curry is host material, a 4th hour of Today show is not needed or wanted. Mark my words, it won’t last long. “DOOL” is much better!

I love watching Passions and it really makes my day. The show is funy, interesting, creative and it’s reflects every day life. Every day i look forward to seeing the show and if i can’t watch my favorite show, NBC will not be my favorite chanel anymore. Please, don’t take my show from me, let me relax and find myself in Harmony at least an hour a day!

Great news Passions fans!!! Not only will Direct TV be taking over the soap opera Passions but Canadians will now be able to watch Passions past it’s cancellation on NBC. Allarco Entertainment, a new Pay Television provider that is starting up in October will now be airing Passions for Canadians. You will have to subcribe to this Premium service to get it though. I know this for a FACT because I myself spoke with Allarco Enteratainment today and they told me under no uncertain terms that they will indeed be airing Passions. They also informed me that they will also be showing all of the shows that have not been aired in Canada for the month of September. You can now let out a sigh of relief because we did it!!! PASSIONS IS SAVED IN CANADA, YAY

This is an e-mail I received from Rogers Cable:
Dear Jonathan,
SoapNet is not licensed for carriage in Canada. However, the CDN rights for Passions have been purchased by Allarco, a new Pay TV operator in
Canada. This new service is going to be launching in October 2007.

After the concerts on the 8:30 hour (central time) Today is about nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been watching Today for the last 14 years or so, I was watching w/ Bryant and Jane, before Katie started.

The 9am hour of Today soooo boring!!!!! I watch the clock for Martha Stewart to come on. Enough is enough and too much smells bad. Passions is such a great show, I missed the last 30 minutes today and was trying to see what happened when I saw this. Today is a morning show, not an an afternoon show, I guess next we can expect to have Today, come on every night too, after one of those 100 or so “Law and Order’s, the I read it was going to Direct TV, I don’t have Direct TV, and there’s nothing to say that DR’s subscribers are Passions viewers. I watch today until 9; Martha Stewart, News; 700 Club; Days(which is also boring right now, I’ve watched it since college, Im 40 now! Bo has become a rearend, it needs a revival!) Passions; Ellen; Access or Extra; News Extra or Access,. I am on NBC for the most part all day, and some nights, (only Law and Order SVU) of the 100 or so. Passions is a funny, strong, suspenseful soapopera. Without Passions, I will watch the 700 club at noon and change the channel, I might come back to watch Ellen, but its been good to flow thru to her, while still laughing w/ a blown mind over Passions.

Make an announcement at the beginning of Passions for a week and see how many more millions respond. Execs need to fire the person you made that decision because is it not a smart one.

IT IS SO UNCALLED FOR ANOTHER HOUR OF THE TODAY SHOW! BUT IT’S NOT EVEN THAT I DON’T CARE WHAT ITS AN EXTRA HOUR OF, IT’S NOT FAIR TO TAKE A SHOW THAT IS STILL IN IT’S PRIME AND LOVED BY MILLIONS OFF. I HAVE TALKED TO SO MANY PEOPLE WHO WATCH. YOU NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR VIEWERS “THEIR WATCHING” NO MATTER IF THERE 8 18 28 OR 38 WE ARE WATCHING FAITHFULLY!I HAVE TO RECORD THEM BECAUSE I’M AT WORK BUT YOU BETTER BE SURE I DON’T MISS ONE EPISODE. AND IF YOU PUT IT ON SOAP NET LIKE I HEARD\ THAT SUCKS TOO BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE CAN’T AFFORD DIGITAL CABLE!!!! AND AS MUCH AS I LOVE PASSIONS I CANNOT AFFORD TO GET IT JUST TO WATCH.AT LEAST PUT WHERE EVERYONE HAS A CHANCE TO WATCH. I AM SO UPSET AT THIS STUPID DECISION! OH AND ANOTHER THING I AM A DAYS FAN AS WELL. PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE DON’T TAKE PASSIONS AWAY “IF IT AIN’T BROKE-DON’T FIX IT”

Please don’t take my favorite show off the air. I have been watching Passionate since the beginning of the show in 1999.
I am a loyal fan, and I record it every weekday. Who wants to watch the Today Show for 4 hours? That is crazy.

I enjoying watching Passion, and Theresa and Ethan are main plot of the soapline, and not to mention Louis Fitzgerald and Sharon; Now comes along Fancy Crane. The show is fun, unique and hilarious. And, don’t forget to mention Tabitha and Timmy who past away. He’s great kid. The show must go on. Pleas NBC do something!!!

Today show really does not need to be any longer then it is now. NBC need to start giving their shows a chance before more of us start jumping ship to go elsewhere. Convictions was one of the best addition to programing and look what happened. The Black Donnely’s is a decent show, I hope cable picks it up because this show can be excellent. They almost took of Friday Night Lights! What is wrong with them? Even American Dreams. Now PASSIONS? The next thing I know they will try to get rid of DOOL! I can’t stay true to a network that will not stay true to me!

OMG! I just heard about NBC taking Passions off the air. I use to watch the first hour of the Today show, and wait for my Passions, but if NBC goes with this move I’ll be watching ABC’s Good Morning America from now on. They don’t need a fourth hour of the Today Show! Please save Passions!!!

As much as I like the Today Show I think adding a fourth hour is defintely not neccesary. First of all, 3 hours is more than enough time. Most people are at work. I can see if you cancel a show because of its low ratings but canceling just to add another hour to a news program is just impratical and unfair. The Today Show is at #1 in ratings at its current time slot. Adding a fourth hour won’t really change the ratings.
