California Highway Patrol: 'Brandy Should be Charged'

The California Highway Patrol recommended on Monday that actress-singer Brandy be charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.

In December, Brandy hit a car from behind which spurned a 5-car accident on L.A.’s busy 405 freeway, in which a mother of two was killed.

The CHP referred the matter to the city attorney's office for review, said spokesman Nick Velasquez.

"The office is currently reviewing the case and determining whether the evidence warrants the filing of a misdemeanor charge of vehicular manslaughter," Velasquez said.

This was clearly an accident on a busy freeway & the CHP is just staging a show because she is a celebrity. The problem is that the CHP spends 95% of their time hastling regular law biding citizens & spends 5% of the time on real criminals (but only when they absolutely must). This is just PR to divert attention from the fact that the CHP is no longer mainly public service but public harrassment and tax collection. Stop cutting real cops by paying for these CHP losers.

This is a trajedy for everyone involved. The only way to fairly say what should happen next is by looking at the facts blindly (without knowing the paople involved). I am not in law so I do not know what circumstances warrant a charge of manslaughter in any form. However from what I’ve read about the details of the accident, the ‘05 Toyota the deceased victim was in after being hit by Brady & hitting the car in front of her as a result, she was then hit by an Acura. I don’t know which of these collisions (if not all)inflicted the fatal injury(s), but it looks like to me the Acura driver may have also been at fault. It is possible he may have been speeding and/or tailgating, not allowing efficient room to react (stopping, swerving, braking, slowing) to avoid the accident.

I do believe this incident with Brandy was unintentional, unfortunately, she did not unintentionally run over a beatle or a pothole. She caused the death of a women who leaves behind a husband and a child. Put yourself in her family’s shoes. Since manslaughter is used in cases of unintentional death, should she be found at fault, she should be charged. It appears that for no reason she ran into the back of someone’s vehible. Maybe this will send a message to other drivers, that when you are driving a vehicle, unless you stay focused on what you’re doing, you can cause someone else’s death. With as much money as she has, if she is unable to stay focused on the task of driving, she should hire a driver.

I think this whole accident is blown out of porportion. Brandy is just an individual person. Her celebrity status should not be used as a form of media to expose the very fact that it was an accident. I’m sure that she did not intend to hurt anyone. I believe the CHP was presured to recommend vehicular manslaugher because she is a celebrity and that people veiw celebrities as getting the royal treatment.
