ABC to Take Action Against Isaiah Washington

In light of the recent controversy surrounding “Grey’s Anatomy” stars T.R. Knight and Isaiah Washington, ABC tells “Extra” today:

"We have had a long standing policy to create and maintain respectful workplaces for all our employees. We dealt with the original situation in October, and thought the issue resolved. Therefore, we are greatly dismayed that Mr. Washington chose to use such inappropriate language at the Golden Globes, that he himself deemed 'unfortunate' in his previous public apology. We take this situation very seriously, and his actions are unacceptable and are being addressed.”

What would ABC do if the other actor used the N word?…I know the answer to that. Fire this A$$hole.

Grey’s Anatomy is a wonderful show and the entire ensemble cast compliment each other to the hilt onscreen..witness the Golden Globe award. However, Isaiah Washington made a mistake and used the F word. He apologized for it and then used the Globes as a venue to spew the same inappropriate verbage once again. He is most certainly entitled to defend himself, if defendable, but the man had previously recanted and said the S word (sorry), so what was he defending at the Globes? An ensemble cast only works well if all participants are giving 100%. Mr. Washington’s “performance” January 15th was an unsolicited one and it served only to stir up what had been an already cooled pot. How would Mr. Washington feel if someone called him the N word? Black people are capable of making mistakes too, are they not?

Reading the commentary here is what really angers me. Right away, blacks are using this to soapbox racism. Well get off it (the soapbox and the tude.) This isn’t about taking a black man off a great television series, this is about the fact that all actions have consequences and the man could not let well enough alone. If Isaiah Washington loses his job he has only himself to blame, and Grey’s Anatomy loses too.

This from a Grey’s fan who still believes in doing the right thing.

Isiah has been a horror of an individual for over a decade. Simply put, he’s an *sshole and has been that way on film sets since the early 90s. ABC knew what they were in for when they hired him. (sort of like the Dallas Cowboys complaining about Terrel Owens’s behavior like it was such a surprise). He’s just dumb to come out and speak out like that. The show’s storyline will greatly suffer if Dr. Burke leaves. But, I was STUNNED that he wasn’t fired when he physically assaulted a co-star in 2006. Most likely he’ll be fired and I hope that the show will survive, but I’ve been slowly losing interest since the first season (which I loved) so I don’t know.

Isaiah needs to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He’s an absolute jerk. He went above and beyond to deliberately grab the microphone and center stage to make his catty remark. He just HAD to humiliate the entire cast. Shows how hard up he is to get attention - even if it’s a strong negative comment directed to someone else. He isn’t satisfied to do this once, but twice - and makes his second comment to the world!!! ABC, you gotta get rid of him - he is a major problem. Open your eyes and dump him!!!!!!!

Of course, fire him! He would not tolerate the “N” word.

My take on this whole situation is this — There was an altercation between Patrick and Isiah when Isiah, frustrated and angry perhaps with T.R. Knight, used a derogative slur that he shouldn’t have. He then apologized for using it, and it appeared that everything was worked out.

But then comes the incident at the Golden Globes, where he now denies ever saying the F-word, while others (including T.R.) are saying he did say it. If he didn’t say it, why did he apologize to begin with?

I don’t have a problem of forgiving someone and letting bygones be bygones, if he or she is truly repentant. But to try and play revisionist history with what happened - to me anyways - means that he isn’t truly sorry about the situation.

I don’t know what the solution is. Do I think he should be fired for saying the word? No, because we all at some point don’t think before we say or do something we wish we could take back. But based on his recent actions it’s apparent that he’s causing friction with other members of the cast, and the bottom line is that if ABC wants to keep the show going they will have to deal with it, and that might mean getting rid of him.

I believe all of this is because of the media doing what they do best, keep picking at gossip like a sore until is bleeds and set up a infection unto death. None of you guys let up until you’ve destroyed who ever you go after.
If they let Mr. Washington go then the other actor needs to go also. Mr. Washington is a fine actor and he has a major role in the show. He will be missed greatly. I know I will no longer watch the show.

As for the posted remarks made by TD about the N word used by Mr. Michael Richards. The N word was not what upset everyone, it was the fact that Mr. Richards wanted to remind the African American men at his show, that back in the day when the white race felt that an african american man was being disrespectful to someone in the white race they were taken out and hung from trees until they were dead. That’s what the anger was about.
And I guess for Mr. Washington this is that Tree being used once again, just a tree of a different kind, yet the hanging is still taking place just the same.

There really isn’t any excuse in this day and age, for any member of SAG to display hatred in such a manner. It was obviously an intelligent decision of the producers to give Dempsey the lead in G.A. instead of Washington. ABC’s response to Washingtons’ continued unappropriate remarks is correct.

While I do not support the comment made to TR by Issiah, I feel it has been overblown by the media as usual nor do we know what possibly infuriated him to make such a comment. I feel personal apologies were made and it should be left at that. Shake hands and go on with the program. Many people work together that do not agree with one another’s life style, religon or race. That is life and most are adult enought to adjust to it and not carry their feelings ito the work place. Today I paid $48 for last season’s DVD of Grey’s Anatomy, my very favorite show. I rush in every Thrusday to see it and tape it as well. Being a medical person I so enjoy this program and see much educational merit as well as entertainment in it. Remove Dr Burke from the show and it will be almost as devestating as it would be to remove Dr Mc Dreamy, Meredith or Sandra O.

If ABC wants this show to continue for several more yrs and I feel it can, a huge mistake will be made by firing Mr. Washington. It is already dragging having Burke take such a low profile and not have the dynamic interaction with Sandra O that was there. Magic! I for one will eventually stop watching the program as many others will as well if this happens. And that is a huge following.
I am for gay rights and rights of all but feel one incident just is going to ruin one of the most delightful and educational programs on TV in a long time. ABC please wise up and take an action of forgiveness with probation possibly. Then if it happens again. well twice is too much.

If he’s trouble, then his character
should be written out of the show. If
not, then it will certainly affect the ratings of “Gray’s Anatomy.” The ball is in ABC’s court.

I think it is being taken a little to far. I think they should all apologize to each other and carry on this magnificent show they have going on ABC (Grey;s Anayomy) Too each his own sexy preverence. We shouldnt discrimate, even though it has always been some type of discrimatiom in the USA. Let;s just get along and do our work without any drama. Because drama causes problem that cant be resolved easily. If we are different from someone else;s sexual prefference shouldnt affect us unless whoever brings it in our SPACE,Then if wetell politely that their actions are not appreciated toward us ,so dont let it happen anymore they should repect our wishes. And we still should respect each other and be friends,family,,ect.ect.

To fire someone over a word is wrong. If they fire Washington over a word it would be a loss to the show. If T.R. or the execs can honestly say that they have never said anything against anyone than they would be liars. Put this to rest already. The media has an agenda, that is why this will not rest, and now Washington is being targeted. The statement was 3 months ago and was delt with already.

It was a word and was taken care of in October. With T.R. bringing it back up on Ellen was wrong. Let it go, the man said he was sorry. If people start getting fired over a word like this, than no one will have a job. His bosses have said things that were wrong, I am sure, so they would be hypocrits if they fire him. What was said on personal time should not affect Washington’s job. He is a great actor and shouldn’t be fired. If he is fired over this, I will stop watching the show. This has been totally blown out of proportion.

I think this whole thing is being blown out of proportion, and the media just perpetuates it as usual. I think Isaiah was wrong, but I would hope that he and T.R. Knight and ABC could resolve this without the intervention of millions of people who really don’t know the full story.

Who is perfect? We all do or say things that we sometimes regret. Would we want to be held to the same standards that we apply to celebrities? They are only human. I think we forget that. Get over it, and get on with it!!!

I think everyone ought to grow up. Did anyone threaten anyone’s life? No, but had the shoe been on the other foot would they still be calling for a resignation? I think not. The fact is we need to stop letting every immoral group that comes along dictate to us how we should feel and make a big deal out of every single thing that is said and done in this country. Once again the Rosie Odonnell’s of the world are shoving their lifestyles down our collective throats. I liked it a lot better when they were in the closet. Self pride was at a much higher level. My God we’ve gone back to the days of Sodom and Gomorrah. God didn’t like it then and I’m sure he doesn’t like it now. Rosie is not someone with a clean slate so why is she always ready to condemn someone else? Leave Mr. Washington alone and let him continue to give us his same great performance that he has every week.

I was angered when it first started I feel that it should have been resolved right then, and there, and put to rest. NEVER TO REAR IT’S UGLY HEAD AGIN. You must carry your self with pride, and Dignity. Respect for other peoples feelings . Knowing what to say out of your mouth. especially on National Television. I still cannot believe his lack of Judgement. I love Grays Anatomy. The entire cast everything about Seattle Grace. I am very disappointed . Mr Washington What were you thinking? Opening that up again .

NO HE SHOULD NOT BE FIRED!! Isiah Washington is a brillant actor and a HUGE part of the Grey’s Anatomy storyline. People make mistakes, he apologized, now move on. If we all got fired for saying things or calling a person a name, then nonone would have a job. He picked a bad choice of words, he apologized, and now the MEDIA needs to leave it alone! Let it Go. I for one enjoy watching the show with all the current actors and actresses on the show. And, if they fire him over this , I for one will boycott the show and advise all of my friends who also enjoy watching the show to do the same.
