The must-see flicks "Dreamgirls," "The Departed" and "The Queen" have taken the early lead in this year's Oscar race, and now we're looking at the sure bets and long shots of the Academy Awards.

"Babel is a serious contender," People magazine's Jess Cagle said.

Clint Eastwood's "Flags of our Fathers," the Indie flick "Little Miss Sunshine" and Mel Gibson's Mayan thriller, "Apocalypto" are also in the running.

Meanwhile, it may likely be Leo DiCaprio's year. The actor is favored to get a Best Actor nod for "The Departed," and he could wind up going head to head with Will Smith for "The Pursuit of Happyness."

Legendary Singer James Brown Dies at 73

The “Godfather of Soul,” James Brown, passed away early Christmas morning after being admitted to Emory Crawford Long Hospital on Christmas Eve day for pneumonia. He was 73 years old.

Brown died with his close friend, Charles Bobbit, at his side, according to his agent Frank Copsidas.

The legendary singer’s death comes just as Eddie Murphy plays a feverishly dancing, smooth-talking James Brown-type in the new movie “Dreamgirls.”

Eddie Murphy's Ex Ready to Sue

“Dreamgirls” co-star Eddie Murphy’s former girlfriend, Scary Spice Mel B, is gearing up for a multi-million dollar lawsuit.

A report out of London on Friday said Mel B, who is just weeks away from giving birth, has hired a top gun legal eagle and plans to wage a $15 million paternity battle against Eddie, who is denying he’s the father of the child she’s carrying.

Mel B insists the child is Eddie’s, and she wants the world to know it.

Judge Orders Paternity Test for Anna Nicole's Baby

Anna Nicole Smith’s bad year just got worse, as she was ordered by a judge on Thursday to bring her 3-month-old daughter to California for paternity tests.

The tests are being sought by Larry Birkhead, Smith’s ex-boy toy who alleges he is the real father of the baby girl.

According to Birkhead’s rep, an L.A. Superior Court ruled that Anna Nicole and daughter Dannielynn were ordered to submit to paternity testing, which Birkhead believes will prove that the former Playmate’s lawyer-boyfriend Howard K. Stern is not the father.

War of Words Erupts Between Trump and Rosie

We’ve got both sides of the Rosie-Trump battle, which started Wednesday on “The View” when Rosie bashed The Donald’s Miss USA melodrama, calling it a publicity stunt.

“I think everything Donald does is a ploy to promote the Trump business,” Rosie touted. “I don’t think he really cares about this young girl.”

Things aren’t looking so rosy after Rosie’s accusations, with Trump threatening to sue over her comments about his finances.

Miss Nevada Stripped of Her Crown

Miss Nevada USA 2007 Katie Rees couldn’t cry her way out of naughty pictures that surfaced Wednesday.

On Thursday, Paula M. Shugart, president of the Miss Universe Organization, announced Rees had been stripped of her title.

"Katie Rees has been relieved of her duties as Miss Nevada USA 2007," Shugart said in a statment. "First runner-up Helen Salas will assume the title and compete at the 2007 Miss USA Pageant on March 23 in Los Angeles."

The latest bombshell comes after racy shots surfaced of the young beauty queen exposing herself and performing explicit sexual acts on others girls.
