Kelly Ripa and Rosie O'Donnell Duke it Out

Picture of Yaniece Thomas
It was a clash of the talk show titans Tuesday morning, as Kelly Ripa and Rosie O'Donnell engaged in an intense war of the words live on "The View."

"I think what you said is downright outrageous," Kelly fired at Rosie.

The daytime dust-up was ignited by a now infamous exchange last Friday between Kelly and her celebrity co-host for the day, Clay Aiken.

Kelly was mortified when the "American Idol" runner-up covered her mouth with this hand.

On Monday's "Live," Kelly complained about Clay to Regis.

"I don't think he was respectful in any way," Ripa said.

Cut to Tuesday morning on "The View," where Rosie shot down Kelly for what she dubbed as a "homophobic remark."

"To me, that's a homophobic remark," Rosie said. "If that was a straight man, if that was a cute man, if that was a guy who she didn't question his sexuality, she would have said a different thing."

For the record, Clay Aiken has kept his sexuality private, but Rosie defended him as if he were gay.

But moments later, Kelly called in to "The View" to defend herself, and she ripped Rosie apart.

"He reached across and covered my mouth with his hand," she said. "I have three kids; he's shaking hands with everybody in the audience. I mean, it's cold and flu season; that's what I meant. And to imply that it's anything homophobic is outrageous, Rosie, and you know better."

"Kell, I get your point," Rosie responded. "I've been a supporter of yours from day one. This is a show where you say your view; as a gay woman, this was my view."

Despite the tension, the TV talkers agreed to bury the hatchet.

However, Ripa may have one more person to confront face to face: Clay Aiken himself.

While Clay is not saying anything about the Rosie-Kelly showdown, he is scheduled to appear Tuesday night at the American Music Awards.

You can be sure "Extra" will bring you more on this story as it happens.

I agree. Kelly was the rude one on the show. She treated Clay like he was a nobody and insulted him with her impersonation of him. I thought it was cool when he asked her to sing.

I used to really like watching rosie & ellen. I now can’t stand rosie & absolutely love watching ellen. I still enjoy ricki martin & never was a fan of that idiot michael whoever that got caught in the bathroom with little boys. No matter who you are, or what you do, or who you prefer, there is a “class” factor. Not all the women on the view are gay - but I find that show to lack class (especially since rosie joined) and all it is, is a shows with a bunch of babbling women who can’t even wait for the other to shut up before speaking. Of course rosie would support clay - cause thats the classless type of action she’d like to perform on the view. Kelly had ever right to be disgusted with that action. It was the classless action - not the sexuality of the individual. I’d be upset if my teenage kids acted in that manner in public in front of millions. It’s very simply rude & an inappropriate action. Rosie has become too gay! Donald is right, she needs to know when to shut her mouth (mind you, so should he). Gay or not!

If Rosie has increased viewership by 30% and is making the network millions and millions of additional dollars simply by showing her face and saying what she thinks every day, she obviously deserves to be compensated for it. It has nothing to do with what you personally think of Rosie, or what you think anyone “deserves to make.”

I’m glad I didn’t see poor Clay put his hand over Kelly’s mouth. Who knows where that hand has been; I’m not talking about the gay accusation either.

My best friends wouldn’t do that to me; nor would I do it to them. It’s just really bad manners.

Yet, for Rosie to “Out him” when he clearly wants to keep his private life private is every person’s right. Rosie; why do you feel that your fight for gay rights gives you the right to thrown “Clay is gay” into the mix where it clearly did NOT belong?????

Look at Ricky Martin. I was really bummed out when I learned he was gay; kind of puts a “fake” aspect on his steamy hot dance routines with equally hot females. I bought his first CD because he was “hot”, and quite frankly, it was the heat not the vocal quality that made me buy his CD. My first and last…….

Geesh, why can’t people keep their private lives private. Like the star on “Frazier” a few years back. I suspected he was gay, but it didn’t matter, he was so funny; that dry sense of humor. I loved him. The “crush” routine was so believable that his pure talent took your mind off how he was pulling off the role and you could enjoy the show without wondering how it made his female cast member love interest comfortable or not.

Geesh, if somebody wants to stay in the closet; that is their right. I’ve shared with very few people my childhood sexual abuse/sexual molestation and a brutal rape later in my life. It’s nobody’s damned business…………..!

Rosie; have you ever heard the saying, “the bigger they are they harder they fall”? I never wished bad luck on anybody but you are really piling up the bad karma with your mouth ….. bad karma in overdrive and I won’t cry when you fall. I’ll never watch that show as long as Rosie is on it….. period!

Why do people pay to hear O’Donnell? She says nothing worth listening to.
She should be in an Institution.

I’m sorry. I don’t think that Rosie is that funny to be making what she is asking for. She needs to move on.
